I agree.
Protecting our airflights is important but strip searching granny in the wheelchair and ignoring Mohammed in the turban is insanity.
TSA should have not happened. What we needed was the Israeli system with El Al. What we got was a combination of Elmer Fudd and Chairman Mao.
DHS is a terrible mistake. We only needed to turn the Coast Guard and the National Guard to their natural missions.
“...Protecting our airflights is important but strip searching granny in the wheelchair and ignoring Mohammed in the turban is insanity...”
Air Marshalls could - and HAVE done the job. Didn’t need TSA then, and don’t now.
DHS was a nightmare waiting to happen.
Both are a fascist’s dream come true.
I think one thing that showed Bush’s character versus what we have now:
He did not use the power of his office to go after his political enemies, as this one does. In spite of the daily grinding and bashing he endured from the psychos on the left, to the best of my memory, there was no IRS targeting of left-wing groups, no official encroachment or threatening of them.
At least I truly don’t remember it if there was.
I don't agree. Sure, the -name- sucks. Need to fix that. But the idea to reorg stateside agencies under the same roof was, I think, a good thing. Especially the coast guard, but also customs, border patrol, DEA and such there's just no reason to have them spread all over between departments. I agree about TSA, but that was going to happen regardless. The airline industry was cratering big time after 9-11. There wasn't much time left before they were all going under. You and I understand it doesn't really make a difference, but joe stupid and the news media needed to see some big sweeping thing happen to get people back on airplanes again. Or there wouldn't be any.
