We already have militarized police. We put ex-military as police officers. We provide police departments with military grade weaponry.

This provides a good method for confronting militarized police forces. Sherriffs have the right to deputize people. They could deputize citizens by the thousands and allow them to carry weapons, and the cops would have to stand down. This would come in handy to prevent gun grabbing.
