BOSTON (WNB) - Guinness joined Heineken and Sam Adams in pulling its sponsorship of St. Patricks Day parades in New York and Boston, citing organizers restrictions on gay and lesbian participants as a central reason for cutting ties.
"Guinness has a strong history of supporting diversity and being an advocate for equality for all," read the Guinness statement. "As this has not come to pass, Guinness has withdrawn its participation. We will continue to work with community leaders to ensure that future parades have an inclusionary policy."
In possibly-related news, Texas brewer Lone Star is reporting extremely heavy sales of their new "Not Gay" brand beer at both Boston and New York St. Patrick's Day events.
