Thanks for the ping, brother...

I took particular note of the side panels on the McKinley - Teddy R poster...

On the LEFT: “Gone Democrat” (shows a failed economy), “Run on the Bank” (showing financial panic), and “Spanish Rule in Cuba” (showing foreign policy failure).

On the Right: “Gone Republican” (shows prosperity); “A Run TO the Bank” (people’s money is safe); and “American Rule In Cube” (showing a strong foreign policy)

Interesting ...the more things change, the more they stay the same...

"...Fordzie..."

Yeah, it is hilarious, actually... but hey, at least the GOP was trying to have a grasp on pop culture back in the day, and make a connection with the youngsters...

It didn't WORK, but what the hell....

The Reagan surging ahead of Mondale one was by Jack Davis of MAD and TV Guide fame.
Goldwater running mate William Miller was in a “do you know me?” American Express ad and his daughter is admitted lesbian liberal talk host Stephanie Miller.

Then there are TV ads. As the book “Who’s Afraid of the Song of the South” (Jim Korkis) points out, Walt Disney (”Gradually, I became a Republican”) had his animators do this one for Ike.

>>The “John or Dean or Harry” mentioned in the song and caricatured as donkeys was meant to suggest Stevenson’s running mate, John Sparkman; Dean Acheson (Truman’s secretary of state), and Harry Truman

“...at least the GOP was trying to have a grasp on pop culture back in the day...”

Amen! One needs to at least TRY.

I didn’t even notice that!

Wilt back Nixon, eh.

I actually think that’s kinda neat.
