WASHINGTON — Twitter photos and videos appear to be blocked in Venezuela as the government there attempts to reassert control amid widespread public protests.

Three people were reportedly killed this week in massive student demonstrations in the capital Caracas, as protesters react to falling living standards. President Nicolas Maduro has called the protests a “neo-fascist” coup attempt, and sought the arrest of an opposition leader. The Venezuelan government has not commented on, or claimed credit for, the apparent Twitter block.

Hello BuzzFeed community. I'm a venezuelan and the situation here is no good. Between info blackout from the goverment and cersorship from the media our only way for us to know what the hell is happening in our country is using Twitter via sharing images and videos. Last night the gov block temporarily Twitter while the National Police was applying violence among students, one of them was beaten to death. 3 deaths so far. I'm not asking for comprehension, i'm asking for you to share these videos to the world before they shutdown internet.. wanna see violence? watch these videos from february 12. You don't need to know spanish, these videos speak for itself. Thank you for your support... http://runrun.es/tech/102451/lo-que-se-vio-de-parque-carabobo-y-ii-los-videos-que-tomaron-los-trending-topics.html

I hope the lessons of Romania and Italy are not lost on the Venezuelan people.

Ask Ceaucescu and Mussolini if their histories are relevant to their demises at the hands of their “own”.
