All things must pass. I predict this present obbession by the media, on what is or is not gay will wane over time. One can only go so far with the lauding and the easy praise for any particular lifestyle. There is more to life than sexuality. Eventually, the consumers will stop supporting this trend at this level of intensity and pervasiveness. I say that will happen after the passage of 8 to 10 years with a new president or after world events force us to focus on topics of more importance to all of us. This now resembles the ‘navel gazing ‘ phase of the 1970s; the indulgent introspection that was the norm of the Me’ Book phase.”My Body, Myself”, “One Is Not Enough”.many of the Neil Simon Plays.

It seems to me that somehow, we have shifted from requests for tolerance of alternative lifestyles, to the mainstreaming and demand, yes demand, that these alternative lifestyles be accepted on the same level as traditional family and lifestyles.

And we have shifted from requests for tolerance, to a situation in which it is now cool to be “gay”. When the heck did this happen?

It’s one thing to be tolerant of “gay”, but something else again when we’re told to “celebrate diversity”, including the “gay” cousins, the “bi-sexual” and those who are having their sex change operations.

It’s one thing to be tolerant of the LGBT peoples, but something else again to celebrate the diversity and celebrate their problems as if they are normal people.
