EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ Attendees to Super Bowl XLVIII will witness yet another exposé of excessive security and infringements of civil rights.Fans entering MetLife Stadium will be stopped at checkpoints, searched, put through metal detectors, and filmed. Their vehicles may be inspected and their possessions will be limited to what they can fit into a single clear plastic baggie. This treatment has become the norm for the NFL.The New Jersey State Police Department blog describes the process of entering the stadium on game day:Fan screenings begin at 2 p.m. on game day. Fans will enter heated welcome pavilions at MetLife Stadium, where they can expect to encounter walk-through metal detectors, X-ray machines, K-9 dogs and pat-down searches. They are encouraged to arrive early to avoid delays and to speed up stadium entrance. We are xraying every piece of equipment, every cargo, every beverage, seat cushion, every piece of merchandise, food
everything that is going in the stadium has to be x-rayed before it goes in, Kevin McCabe, Chief of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency told Fox.While there is no specific threat posed to the game, security is preparing for bombings and shooters. I would list them in priority order being a suicide bomber, a vehicle laden with explosives and a mass shooter or mass shooters similar to the Kenyan mall, or the Mumbai incidents, said Ed Hartnett, former head of the NYPD Intelligence Unit. There will be roughly 3,000 security guards and 700 cops inside the stadium. SWAT teams will be present at the game and high-altitude sniper nests will be set up above the fans, where sharpshooters can peer down at the crowd with high powered rifles...

Ping for your observations.
Who in their right mind would subject themselves to such an affair. That's why there are flat panel TV's.
I’ll bet with bulky, cold-weather clothing needed today, security will be a nightmare.
Wasn’t that a nuke setup in Philadelphia?

I don’t think they’re allowing any bags at all, which is understandable.
No, thanks. I’ll pass on those $2000 tickets and enjoy the game inside where there’s no line for the restroom or the concession stand. Although, the bathroom isn’t smelling much better than those at the game since we were up at 2AM washing sunk off one of the slobber monsters! It’s a good thing we’re all down with colds and have stopped up noses.
If we can have US Customs and Border Protection at the Super Bowl...we can surely use them for securing the border and deporting all the illegal aliens.
Stupid...
I think $2,000 might be low. Maybe in the nosebleed section? ;-)
For the One-percenters that can afford to go to this Superbowl, this might be their first [ahem] exposure to the police state little people experience.
But my guess is even the security is just bogus. The elites won’t actually get much security scrutiny.
I’ve often wondered how many folks at a SB are actual fans of the team and how many are just high rollers wanting to hit the big event?
There is a separate entrance to the box seats. They won’t be subjected to the general herd, cattle prod treatment, that’s for sure.
There are still folks for whom this will be a trip that empties some savings account for a lifelong dream. They’re the ones that will get concentration-camp treatment.
Nomination for Quote of the Day.
I just looked at StubHub. Pairs of nosebleed tickets available for $1700 apiece. That is not bad to see the freakin’ Superbowl.
Given the costs of attending a Super Bowl, my guess is that a small minority of actual fans of the Broncos and Seahawks are there. The vast majority are high rollers who can afford to take time off, and spend the money, to attend this event.
Well, the face value of Super Bowl tickets is $500, from what I heard. So even at $1,700, somebody is making a nice profit from selling these tickets.
