I don't know. Russia versus Austria (who've hosted twice before) and South Korea (who'll host next time). Russia wasn't the obviously worst choice of the three. And if you're going to have the Olympics in Russia Sochi is where you'd have it.

I'm not saying it was a good choice. Having the Olympics in the Caucasus is a bonehead move. But saying drug dealers or Mafiosi were behind it all looks a little simplistic.
