I'm going to be organizing a social media and phone campaign, designed to complement the efforts of NumbersUSA and the Heritage Foundation's Sentinel program, in opposing and pushing back against the move in Congress to legalize the status of 15 million Illegal Aliens. That will be starting next week, by which time we will see how aggressive John Boehner and the GOP establishment are going to push for amnesty. But meanwhile, I want to prepare you for that and impress upon you the intensity of the pro-amnesty forces.
The Republicans in the House are going to be having a confab Jan. 29 through Jan. 31 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina in Cambridge, Maryland, during which the party leadership is going to attempt to sell the members on a plan to offer legalized status to illegals through the issuance of work permits. The notion here is that the House members can finesse their position to constituents and voters that, “there is NO amnesty in this proposal, all we are doing is allowing those that have jobs and are not wanted for criminal behavior, to continue working legally”. That's not a quote, but a characterization of the kind of slimy rhetoric you'll be hearing.
There are a host of fallacies with this tactic. Number one, contrary to the argument that many illegals have not broken any laws beside unauthorized entry into the U.S. - the fact is that the unlawful entry was merely the first in a series of illegal acts. If an illegal is working, they are breaking an additional law. If they are working as a consequence of identity theft, they have broken an additional law. If they've engaged in a conspiracy with an employer who has reason to know, or should know that they are illegal, they are in violation of yet another law. Once again, the modern politician resorts to the play book of the magician. Divert your audience's attention elsewhere. In this case the diversion is the nonsense about whether the recipient of a green card has committed a certain number of misdemeanors or felonies, when in reality, their very presence in this country is evidence that they have committed a series of crimes.
The proponents of an initial gift of legalized status, short of citizenship, hope that you will be diverted from the basic reality, by distracting you with the question of whether the illegal has committed a felony. Illegal is illegal and once we begin parsing the basic issue of the illegal status by the degree or extent of collateral criminal activity, the amnesty team has advanced the football closer to our goal line. Hey, the Super Bowl is coming up, so why not use a football analogy?
What has to be made clear in this debate, is that the simple award of a work permit, is the Camel's nose under the tent for a future, incremental process of granting citizenship. All legislation that comes out of Congress in this era of 'Progressivism' is but a stepping stone to something more objectionable. As the editors of National Review, sagely observe:
"Unfortunately, many Republicans have convinced themselves that the key question is whether or not illegal immigrants eventually get citizenship, and insist that only a law that creates a “path to citizenship” is amnesty. They are wrong on both counts. The central question is whether illegal immigrants are allowed to work and live here legally. As soon as they are, that’s the amnesty. For most of these immigrants, eventual citizenship will be an afterthought."This is precisely the case. Mexican nationals have little genuine interest in American citizenship. They simply wish to leverage our advantages to whatever extent possible – in other words, as much as our government will allow it. Of course, if the game changes with the type of 'immigration reform' that passed in the Senate, they will game that process for an indefinite amount of time, while they help themselves to the underground economy of cash and the social benefits that their anchor babies leverage them into.
With 'immigration reform' you have a consensus among Democrats, who will capitalize on any such bill, putting forth an argument that it was their relentless insistence that caused the GOP to cave. The other major winner, will be the United States Chamber of Commerce, who will proudly boast to their membership that use illegal labor, that they pushed the ball (wage destruction) over the goal line.
The remarkable aspect of all of this is that the Democrats, looking for replacement voters for the ones they've lost because of their disastrous policies, are being followed off the cliff by Republicans, who have no motive here other than some illusory notion that the Captains of Industry will reward them with some sort of Golden Parachute for betraying American workers and taxpayers. To top things off, are the ludicrous statements being made by the principal cheerleaders of amnesty.
“The principles they lay out I’m sure won’t satisfy everybody,” Michael R. Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, said at an immigration forum on Friday. But, he added, “if we can make some compromises here for the good of the country, I think we have a very good chance for the first time in a long time of changing something that is really damaging all of us.”When Bloomberg says 'changing something that is really damaging all of us”, who is he speaking to – his colleagues that employ illegal labor? Is maintaining even the charade of immigration enforcement, 'damaging' all of us? Quite the contrary, Mr. Bloomberg – the lack of serious enforcement measures are 'damaging' everyone who works and pays taxes and sends their children to public schools. The Administration is providing a fresh injection of disinformation to this policy debate as well, via Jeh Johnson, newly appointed DHS chief, at a meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington D.C.
“An earned path to citizenship for those currently present in this country is a matter of, in my view, homeland security to encourage people to come out from the shadows. It is also, frankly, in my judgment, a matter of who we are as Americans,” he said, “to offer the opportunity to those who want to be citizens, who’ve earned the right to be citizens, who are present in this country--many of whom came here as children--to have the opportunity that we all have to try to become American citizens.”How much better off would you be money wise, if you had a dime for every utterance from the ruling elite of such phrases as 'living in the shadows', 'broken immigration system' and the like? Where does one start with the false equivalencies? “Who we are as Americans?” Who we are as Americans are fools and dopes if we let the organized crime syndicate in Washington pull off amnesty. The next statement from 'Jeh', is even more of a mind rape. “to offer the opportunity to those who want to be citizens, who’ve earned the right to be citizens, who are present in this country...” Who have “earned the right”? Earned the right how, Mr. Johnson? Do you earn the right to live in someone's home by breaking and entering? “Who are present in this country.” I'm confused with this. Is the fact that they are present, an argument in favor of awarding them legal status? Is the fact that they “are present in this country”, an advantage to their case? Hey, Jeh, I'd have serious doubts about awarding them a path to citizenship if they were outside the country, like all those stupid shmoes that are patiently waiting in line for permission, but since you say they are here - 'present in this country', why that changes everything! By all means, hand out that free pass!” Is this some kind of logic that exists only inside the Beltway? Do toilets flush up instead of down in Washington D.C.?
Only time for one more. “Common sense immigration reform is supported by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, businesses, and if the polls (are) to be believed, the majority of the American people, border security is inseparable from homeland security.” If the “polls are to be believed”? What polls? No reputable poll suggests or indicates that Americans favor amnesty. None. Show me one. The fact is diametrically the converse. When asked about the importance of 'immigration reform' in the rank of national issues, only a whopping 3% of Americans rated it as significant. So evidently the pollsters snagged some employers of illegals, some illegals and some of Bloomberg, McCain and Schumer's cronies. Doesn't sound to me like there is any kind of a national clamor for bringing illegals 'out of the shadows'. A new Quinnipiac University poll indicates that:
52 percent of Republicans and 42 percent of independents would be less likely to vote for a legislator who supports a “path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.” (Quinnipiac University Poll, Jan. 8, 2014) In fact, opposition to amnesty has increased 50 percent since a May 2013 Quinnipiac poll showed that 36 percent of Republicans and 25 percent of independents would be less likely to vote for a pro-amnesty legislator. (Quinnipiac University Poll, May 31, 2013) Additionally, a new Gallup poll reveals that only three percent of American adults surveyed believe immigration is a priority that should be addressed in 2014. (Gallup Poll, Jan. 15, 2014)”All this raises a couple of huge questions. One, how does granting amnesty enhance national security? Answer - it has nothing to do with it. As a matter of fact, the puppetmasters don't want the border secured, so any sort of promises of beefed up security at the border are nothing more than a tease. Once the business interests get a fresh infusion of cheap labor to drive wages even further into the sewer, there will be no interest in Washington for border security, other than the phony act that poses for it now.
Second question – what is compelling Republican leadership in the House and Senate to try to draw rank and file legislators into a bloody ambush – especially now that they have Democrats on the ropes in the mid terms? I'm lost on that one. You hand them a gift like Obamacare and they want to find a way, not to capitalize on it, but self destruct instead. There's a rotten minnow on the end of that fishing hook. Let's make it as unattractive as it would taste, so they don't take the bait.

Essentially it is offering US citizenship to the entire population of Latin America and whoever else comes in via the Mexican border. The ultimate limit will be the point at which the economy of the USA is indistinguishable from the economies of Latin America and there is no more incentive to cross to the north.
No matter what is said or what is in the Amnesty Law when it passes, there will be NO strengthening of the border. It will be like the Berlin Wall when the crowds all started crossing, telling the guards, didn't you hear? there is no more barrier.
Texas had better be beefing up the Rangers and doing some border closing of its own.

Agreed. End entitements for illegal aliens and the anchor baby thing and they will deport themselves.
Combined with the other measures they would leave in droves. No big roundups, no big expenditures and no provocative video in the news. We shouldn't have to pay for them to leave. Remove the incentives and enforce the law in a strong and even manner.

the minimum wage connection to this is interesting. If you do a credible job of enforcing immigration law, both at the border and in the interior and require implementation of eVerify, illegals will skedaddle and wages will naturally rise as a factor of the labor market’s response to supply and demand.
People wonder why so many illegals exist.

They want help, illegally hire illegals. Take chances to get work done and keep afloat.
So legals cannot get the jobs, because they would have to be paid, even if they don’t care, the high price called MW.

Maybe while they are meeting, we should be praying, manning the phones to their offices...all of them, in every town they have one, and praying some more. Worth a try, anyway!
