The facts support your article. I’ve long argued that it was not a “civil war”, which is defined as a war between citizens of the same country, but rather a “war of Northern aggression.” Nothing in the Constitution forbids states from seceding. Your article is great because it’s based on facts and not the fabrications of the victors. Lincoln should have listened to that member of his cabinet that suggested he let the South go in peace. Great article.

Didn't the south fire the first shot?

___

Isn’t Ft. Sumter located in Charleston, SC? Major Robert Anderson, commander of the Union forces occupying Ft. Sumter, refused repeated calls to abandon the fort. The Union’s blockade of Charleston harbor was effectively the first shot fired.

There have always been ways to declare war without declaring war — one such story was where the ambassadors/messengers were sent back after having their beards burnt off.

Of course the south did. The sout SOS, Toombs argued against firing on the fort. If they had not, things would have been much different. Slavery was a great evil. Freeing the slaves would have changed a severely tainted cause and turned it into a moral and just cause.
