Truthfully, alcohol is damned deadly stuff. It is in the same class as automobile accidents as far as mortality goes, so comparing it with other things, even drugs, will most always be wanting.
Mortality associated with marijuana is both indirect and indeterminate, after a quarter century of research. At most it is a fraction of a percent, within the margin of error of other conditions.
Pot use opens the door to other drugs, many of which are instantly addictive... unlike alchohol. And those drugs have killed plenty.
