There is nothing wrong with limiting people to using them at approved grocery stores. The problem is that they are not only used for SNAP, food stamps, they are also direct cash payments that people are using their EBT’s to access.

EBT food card payments are already only allowed to be used for food at approved stores the prom is that many of the bodega’s that they use are ‘glad handing’ the EBT. They process the cards for $100 and kick back the $50 in cash.

Limiting the types of food able to be purchased is silly as too few people know how to cook from scratch and even fewer have the time. Most people on food stamps have a job.

Many new food stamp recipients, since 2008, had good jobs they lost and are now stuck with a low paying part time job or several low paying jobs. The typical recipient is not the problem. It is the criminal element, the complete leach that is the problem.

I like that idea!

My son-in-law is a marine and says that some of the MREs aren’t too bad if you add some Del Taco hot sauce to them.

What about requiring a receipt to be included to account for all purchases made and if any garbage purchases are on it (candy, smokes, nail salon, etc.) all future payments will be reduced by that amount. The more they abuse the less they get until it zeroes out.

for a approved list of food purchases...
********************************
The “approved” items will mysteriously jump in price by 50% or more upon passage of the rules.. store brand equivalents , already sold at a discount to the national brands , will be frozen out ... members of congress representing Del Monte , Green Giant , Quaker Oats , Kellogs and others will suddenly find themselves in possession of the keys to fancy resort properties...

I would go for that. However what an accounting nightmare that would be. I suppose they would have to hire millions more in the Welfare offices.

Poor people are so lucky. I would love to go to Hawaii, but that’s just not in the cards for me: I have a job.

I know the feeling. I work like a fool, barely scrape by and had to shell out $$$ for my quarterlies this weekend. The closest I'll get to Hawaii in my lifetime is watching the waves and the trees on a webcam. But the parasitic class has nary a care, life is paid for! Is it wrong to hope for their comeuppance when they depart this life?

Oh, accounting is no problemo. When different tax rates applied to different purchases, it was “supposed” to be a to be a nightmare, but computers took care of it.

It drives me crazy that the idiot government has worked so hard to remove the “stigma” of food stamps. There should be separate lanes at the checkout, and those lanes don’t take things that aren’t covered. So, if they want to buy Cheetos/beer/hair color, they have to make another trip through another line. Inconvenient? So is my working a certain percentage of my day to pay for it. Too “busy”? With what? Too bad.

“and they work OUTSIDE the state they are issued in because???”

...uhhh, they were looking for work? Or, maybe they were saving money in a lower sales tax state.

And if you believe this, I’ll tell you more.

The directions to the cook rice/beans are on the package.

I’m not sure who’s dumber, the recipients who were silly enough to use the card there, or the government folks who made it possible to use them there.

You can't force people to buy certain items just because you are upset that they are poor. Most of the recipients of food stamps are employed. It is a supplemental program that supplements their food purchases.

Weather you like it or not a lot of people are suffering in this economy and the constant bashing of those who are suffering from the Right makes us look like idiots. We should be extremely hard on the idiots that have put an additional 25 million people on the rolls due to their crappy policies and that is Mr. Obama and his merry band of socialist jerks not the people who are suffering due to those policies.

You beat me to it. I was going to say that. I didn’t know Disney took EBT for admission.
