Kevin Beaner is a close friend of an acquaintance of mine. He is a middle-aged Harley-Davidson owner, professional vagabond, published author and photographer who has been clean and sober for several decades. He raised $10K from his followers (he has 5000 friends on Facebook) this last summer and has been in Vietnam for a month riding around on a tiny motor scooter. So your friend scams a vacation in VN, paid for with other people’s money, and we’re supposed to give a $hit?
So? My daughter is in Vietnam. She’s being paid to teach them English, which they understand is the language of business. Kindergarden through adults. No, not Mandarin. English.
I’m going back in April but without my scoot.
Ll of the schools are required to teach English.Outside the big cities many schools, maybe most teach English without having teachers that know English. The result is all the little kids can say, “Hey Maycan! how you?” and count to five or ten after a fashion. Older kids feel silly trying it and don’t.
An old buddy of mine went for a month visit in 05 and then went right back twice more in the next 6 months. He wound up marrying a young widow with a kid. He taught English for a European education company then engaged with the government to help set up a new college in Nha Trang. He retired last year and they are living in Nha Trang on his Social Security. $3k a month goes almost as far there as his lawyer’s income back in the US went. He likes the twelve month summer.
