Food inflation is significant. Anyone who hits the grocery store on a regular basis will agree.

EBT is a real source of food inflation by creating artificial demand.

Another problem is food productivity doesn’t grow as fast as many other things.

Moore’s law suggested that processing power doubles every 2 years, that is about 41% productivity increase per year. (1.41 ~ square root of 2) Moore’s law has been true for about 40 years.

Why is there not so much productivity increast in production of food?

One reason is Department of Agriculture has to approve new foods, drugs, and bans certain chemicals.

Another is government permits illegal aliens to provide cheap labor that limits the advantage of greater mechanization.

I agree. I know I’m paying about twice as much for groceries now as I did in 2008.
