Great coastal defence force but I don’t see then getting out from under their landbased fighter escorts. Their carrier will spend more time in port than at sea. Next Target-—North Korea—to establish order and set up a puppet state they can control. Then, Taiwan in a classic Trojan Horse attack (like the Nazis did to Norway) lastly Vietnam for their islands and border territory— Beyond that—Maylaya and Singapour and Indonesia for Oil. They will head south rather than north to face Russia and Japan. They will kick Japan as a pinata for domestic peace but stop short of a shooting war. That’s my prediction.

So, what is the point of sending a carrier task force out that cannot conduct flight operations?

It is all aimed against Russia-India-Vietnam-Japan alliance in the first place.
USSA under King Obamao is a primary Chinese ally right now, not the target.

The Chinese military buildup is aimed at Russia??? Please don’t drink so early in the morning. It isn’t healthy.

China-Russia Yellow Sea naval drills begin
AP via Yahoo News ^ | April 22, 2012

BEIJING (AP) — China and Russia launched joint naval exercises Sunday that highlight warming ties between their militaries and growing cooperation in international affairs.
[snip]
"It's an excellent exchange for China to be able to drill jointly in such sensitive areas," Yin told CCTV.
[snip]
Much of that cooperation takes place within the confines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a grouping of Central Asian states that seeks to check U.S. influence in the region and began holding joint drills in 2005.

Formerly Cold War rivals for leadership of the communist world, China and Russia have since found common ground in countering liberal democratizing trends across Asia and Eastern Europe and frequently vote against Western initiatives in the United Nations Security Council. ..."

Just about all you do on this forum is protect and cover for Putin and Russia. I imagine you do it elsewhere as well. Are they paying you for this?

Yeah, it would be like the US and Iraq under Saddam Hussein staging joint military exercises before the Gulf War. Can't even imagine anything so freaking ridiculous.

You certainly has to expand your mind, ETL. No offence. Not every other nation has such a favorable position as the United States.

Darn right many who export are conservatives. They were locked in a corner by unions, either directly or indirectly. So when threatened by unions, they say “screw you” and go to better shores where people aren’t so selfish and self-righteous about their worth. Hence, fewer jobs.

Businesses outsource as a reaction to the endless bullying by low lifes who think they should be paid a million bucks for turning screws. If not for high prices (wages), they’d love to stay on these shores.

It’s time someone put these unions in their places. Scott Walker was closest to it, although ironically that is the incongruous union for professionals rather than the typical.

So you think Russia and the ChiComs have been staging joint war games, as recently as a few months ago, while at the same time preparing to go to war against each other. Who the heck do you think you're fooling? I hope not many.

I don’t think they want to battle each other, but the situation is all about that. It is clear that China is taking advantage of US-Russian “Great Game” in Central Asia and Russians are certainly don’t like it. Just like they don’t like a Chinese immigration and overall growing economic dominance over Far East.

Dumb question. Are the fighters pictured land based, carrier based, or photoshopped?

Land based. The Liaoning is not operating an air wing yet.

See my post 38 and visit the links there.

Thanks for the response. As I suspected, there's less than meets the eye. It's pretty amusing that they used land-based aircraft for the pics rather than simply acknowledge that they did not have an operational carrier squadron.

Severaal reasons.

1) They are conducting formational exercises with large groups of ships for their carrier. They have never done this before and are establishing doctrine.
2) As a photo op for the masses.
3) As a message to other regional nations.
4) To pre-empt the Indian two carrier exercises that occurred on January 4th, getting their message with their images out in front of that.

Now, they are in serial production of their J-15 aircxraft which are very decent and capable strike fighters. Not to be underestimated.

They have already trained one group of pilots on take-offs and landings, and formational exerciese with their three pre-production aircraft available for that purpose.

In December they turned over their first six production aircraft, and will be training those soon.

I expect by the end of the year we will see the Liaoning operating with 12-15 aircraft.
