Before the war, Vilnius was “Wilno” which belonged to Poland. After the Nazi-Soviet 1939 invasion, the Soviets annexed it to the Lithuanian SSR, but the city was at that time still predominantly Polish.

That is interesting.

Someone once told me that Lithuanian dictionaries tend to show Sanskrit word etymologies.

What’s your take on the connection between the two languages?
