Welfare queens, chillin' |
A recent caller to an Austin radio talk show ('Lucy', 32 y.o., Riverside, TX) -just one of the record 91.5M Americans who've left the US work force- bragged to the host that both she AND her husband 'don't see the need' for working these days... even though they have three young daughters. She said she prefers to live on welfare and 'benefits' so she can 'visit friends and smoke weed all day'...
Here's the sweet little package Lucy's managed to put together:
Section-8 gov't-paid rent $550/mo
Electricity $ubsidy $150/mo
'Lucy' -who would obviously work if she had to- went on to tell listeners she enjoys
'free Xmas gifts' for the kids and other benefits/charity as well, adding 'Why should I work...?

I heard this on air and it sounded a bit staged. The facts ring true but she was simply too archetypical to be believable. A lot of strange things are true so I could be wrong.

Star Parker has a fantastic testimony on this very subject.
When I talked to her, I was shocked at how well she lived on ‘welfare’.
Thank goodness, she woke up.

Naw, that’s just a ‘stock’ photo lol
I don’t know what she looks like, it was a radio talk show

I’m thinking she’s going to get invited to the State of the Union address, and get to sit next to Moochel.

Reminds me of the scene from Million Dollar Baby where Hilary Swank bought her mother a new house. After the surprise the mother was extremely angry because her welfare benefits would be cut..................

anyone that doesn’t make over $30,000 after taxes is really stupid to work.

My wife has an old friend who's daughter is on welfare in Texas. She is trying to care for three girls she has custody of through a court order and is totally supported by welfare and foster child programs.
On the day before Thanksgiving she received three frozen turkeys with a box of back up potatoes, stuffing, etc. from three separate state support agencies. This was a great example of well intentioned efforts going wrong because of the lack of coordination in government.
We were also disappointed to learn that the woman kept all three turkeys without maybe considering that someone else could use one. But, that may be a symptom of becoming dependent on government.

Exactly- guess we need to de-incentivize this sort of attitude.
Although I couldn’t lay around the house all day like ‘Lucy’, you could probably make quite a bit of coin doing under-the-radar jobs, on top of the welfare it could add up pretty quick

The single mom is better off earnings gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & various government benefits, than to earn a gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045.

She's even better off working "off the books" and keeping all her benefits. Plus any support from the live-in boyfriend.
