In August 2002, New York City Councilman Charles Barron told a Washington, D.C. crowd gathered to demonstrate for slavery reparations that "I want to go up to the closest white person and say, 'You can't understand this, it's a black thing,' and then slap him, just for my mental health,"
That's when I had "the Talk" with my daughter. I had already told her about how to identify and avoid thugs and gang bangers of any race. But then we have this black NCY councilman, who I expect is older, educated, articulate and probably wearing a suit and tie, who might physically assault her, unprovoked, just because she is white. No longer is it safe to just avoid thugs and gang bangers but she should avoid any black person that she doesn't personally know and trust. As councilman Barron said, "it's a black thing."
Even Fox News presented some humorous tapdancing with the issue, with Megyn Kelly announcing that the perps seem to be mostly "minority" ethnics, and carefully eschewing their own label of choice.
The addition of the usual suspects to the mix just added to the irrational response, some even suggesting that the "incidents" are fake; a cruel racist hoax perpetrated most probably by conservatives generally, and Tea Party Adherents specifically.
But the discussion slowly drifts towards the rational conclusion that a complete description of the "practice" defines exactly the definition of terrorism. Domestic terrorism. Criminals don't need to be MENSA graduates to engage in it.
Timothy McVey, the only domestic terrorist to date so described, killed 168 people and injured over 600; He paid the ultimate price in rather quick fashion. It remains to be seen if the current crop of domestic terrorists will also pay the ultimate price after killing and injuring an equal number of victims, albeit one at a time. Distributed terrorism, rather than one explosive incident.
It would be useful to revisit the definition of terrorism : the random murder or serious injury of indiscriminately chosen victims meant to instill uncertain fear and terror throughout the general population, ostensibly for political or "social justice" purposes. To make people in their own neighborhood, afraid to leave their homes, crimes always violent and random.
It is useful to remember that the Puerto Rican bombing of a restaurant in 1975, with subsequent acts of terrorism by the FALN, including in the House of Representatives, and incidents by the Irish Republican Army, and the Black Panthers, eventually led to the formation of the First Anti-Terrorist Task Force in New York in 1980.
Will it be necessary to have similar Anti Terrorist Forces now in every major city populated by the undefined "minority ethnics?"
