Funny thing about self-esteem... it comes from achievement. Having achieved a little something, you are entitled to a modicum of self-esteem. My son mows the grass for the neighbor, he makes 20 bucks and gets the satisfaction of a job well done and money in his pocket.
Self-esteem that isn't connected with some kind of achievement, even of the most minor sort, is pathological.
