Yeah, I mean, it went from promoting him, to covering for him, right to inflammatory. I mean, they didn’t even stop at “distancing themselves from him”. They went from “dare you” to “triple dog dare you” to coin a phrase from my favorite holiday movie.

Strange, strange days.

We live in an age where there is almost no new thinking going on (as compared to say 1900 to 1930), yet there is similar economic, social, and cultural upheaval.

I’m not saying the 1900 to 1930’s new ideas were all good, but at LEAST people were thinking. Objectivism, communism, etc. The art of the period is STILL, for me, so far out front compared to what comes to mind in most people when you ask them to picture the 1900 to 1930s.

Dali was 1920’s, for example.

Now art is an inside joke. If you aren’t in, you don’t get it, but it is still valuable because the people that buy it are in on it somehow.

Jackson Pollock was the first of that lot. Jasper Johns was the last of the artists who still made works everyone could access. Love Jasper Johns.
