Allowing Blackmail by an enemy consisting of medieval animals, who respect neither rule of war, rule of diplomacy or normal human behavior is a losing proposition. Always has been, always will be.

Turn Afghanistan loose. All of it, "friends" and enemies alike.
Cut off ALL aid of every sort. Give them an ultimatum, and let them deal with the results.

I understand that B-52s are still in service, still very efficient and their existence could be made hell. Give them an ultimatum, and then follow through.

That we would exchange dozens of known two-legged killers for one fellow citizen may be philosophically sound, but strategically suicidal.

Leet the barbarians sort themselves out.
