How does a person with the education of a college professor think this is an appropriate message for students?
Collen Flaherty of Inside Higher Ed has the story.
Students of Color Only
A Texas Christian University professor reached out in an e-mail to a group of students he deemed to be of color to help them succeed in his class. But the move backfired with at least one student, who was insulted at being included for her perceived ethnicity.
After I read it, I read the names [of the other recipients] and they were just Hispanic last names, said a student of Santiago Piñón, assistant professor of religion. (The student asked not to be identified by name. ) The message, addressed last week to her and eight other students a copy of which was obtained by Inside Higher Ed invited them to a special meeting Piñón said he wouldnt mind ending up as a study session for my STUDENTS OF COLOR ONLY [emphasis his].
Here is the full text of the e-mail:
I thought, Is this really happening? the student said. I laughed, in shock, as my immediate reaction.
Discuss the exam, is the prof giving them the answers?
‘cause students of color are stupid and need extra help /libtard academic
Isn’t white a color?
I was under the impression that TCU was a conservative school. Guess I was wrong.
This is the sort of soft racism that the left subjects blacks to daily. Essentially, they are today, constantly, “You are unable to succeed with out help”. “Your man is incapable of taking care of you, let us help you”. “You can’t get a job on you abilities, we’ll make sure you get one”; so on and so forth.
I fully get why black men should be angry, I just don’t get that they are angry at the very people that would liberate them from the chains of liberal racism, and they continually turn to those that view them only by the color of their skin, and how they can be used for political/economic gain.
If I was in this class, I’d grab a fellow cracker and attend. I’d sit down and listen. Not to disrupt. I’d act as though I belong there, which I would. What would/could he do?
This is the sort of soft racism...”
...very well said!
I’ve heard of colleges offering special tutoring for minorities only; this is the first I’ve heard that a professor has done it.
My first thought - “discussing the exam” is telling them what is on it.
If I were one of the profs students he’d be getting sued about now for discrimination.
This is called the soft prejudice of low expectations and rush talks about it all the time
I can tell you that this kind of crap comes from administrators who hold a lot of sway even over tenured faculty. If the school does not have tenure then the faculty is at their mercy.
TCU, a “Christian” school, has an exclusively homosexual dormitory.
I would have no problems with this, so long as someone doing this for Whites could do it with no problems as well.... yeah right..
After more sun this summer than usual, parts of me are a kind of pinkish-brown. I guess I’m “of color”.
The prof likely did not know he students, but went by surname. Idiot.
