Dem. Pat Caddell gets conservative love for shredding Lindsay Graham

Fed up enough to cheer a Democrat – a Jimmy Carter advising Democrat, no less – who showed up in Charleston to bash Graham on pretty personal terms, according to the Daily Beast.

Calling Graham the “effective leader of the surrender caucus of the Republican Party,” Democratic strategist and Fox News analyst Pat Caddell drew cheers from a gathering of conservative activists Monday night in the city’s downtown Harbour Club.

Graham, a two-term senator, is facing three challenges so far from within the Republican Party and a conservative base incensed with his apparent willingness to compromise with President Obama and Democrats on issues such as immigration reform, known to conservatives as “Grahamnesty.”

Caddell listed other beefs conservatives have with Graham that aren’t getting nearly the same attention: He agreed to Obama’s appointment of a “corrupt and radical” nominee for Labor secretary in Thomas Perez, Caddell said (see the Wall Street Journal’s Perez takedown here ); he allowed Samantha Power to be confirmed ambassador to the United Nations despite her complicity in the initial cover up of the attack in Benghazi a year ago; and he hasn’t pursued National Security Adviser Susan Rice, despite her own role in mouthing the Benghazi cover story when she was the UN ambassador.

Caddell has been an exception among Democrats for his focus on the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012, as well as his contention that the IRS practicing of targeting conservative groups in the run-up to President Obama’s re-election campaign was a White House operation.

Even while criticizing Graham, Caddell was just as hard on the group that elected him.

Pat Caddell might be a Democrat, but he sounds more like a Republican than the so called “Republican” leaders. Caddell is also correct in blaming the SC GOP for Lindsay “Turncoat” Graham as a Senator. Lindsay has certainly been rollover poodle for the Donkeys in the Senate. Caddell strikes me as a principled and honest man.

Pat Caddell is a very intruiging figure. He proclaims himself a Democrat and blasts RINOs for acting spineless. Maybe, he’s a gentleman and prefers a fair fight against his opponent rather than come across as a bully.

It's said that a conservative is a liberal that's been mugged. I think Pat Caddell has been mugged by the Donkey Party's leftists and is rightly horrified at what he sees. I cannot read his mind, but I'd call him a Reagan Democrat. I believe Pat Caddell is a man of integrity and principle. These character strengths are completely absent in Sen. Lindsay Graham.

Why doesn't Pat just admit that he has become a Republican instead of going through this BS.

"Why doesn't Pat just admit that he has become a Republican instead of going through this BS".

Because he has professional and economic reasons for calling himself a Democrat.

His well-paying TV gigs give him added benefits such as guest-speaking across the fruited plain for renumeration and expenses.

So there's good reason he fills a "token" spot on Fox....being a "renegade" Democrat who speaks like a Tea Party conservative is rather an entertaining novelty.

If his TV persona was that of a true Democrat, he'd be just another predictable, boring hack spouting 'Rat talking points.

This is not to say he's not sincere in his views, because I feel he is. But we have to remember that TV punditry is also show biz....and the pundits adopt various roles which are of the most professional and lucrative benefit to them.

Yes, kind of like John McCain is the token TV “conservative”.

Of course, I actually like some things about Caddell and he has some integrity, so it’s not quite the same.
