I did not realize my former boss was a communist until I had known her for some years. Up to a certain point, I just thought she was a very hard core liberal. But every now and then the mask would slip and I saw the real monster leering out. One such instance was in a discussion about schooling. In the end, as our disagreement became more pronounced, she blurted out that our kids did not belong to us, they belonged to the state. Naturally, I jumped her case on that one, telling her over my dead body - which she would likely agree, and probably did, silently. Another time, she very angrily spit out It’s the %$#! Jews and their &^%$@! banks!!” She once extolled the virtues of eugenics and proudly displayed a book from the twenties on the subject. I told her it was very Margaret Sanger-ish of her, which she didn’t like very much. On a long drive for work is when the true colors really came to the fore. I told her my folks were from Indiana, and she said something along the lines, very proudly of, “Good people from there. The home of American communism.” (She was wrong, I know, adn I called her on it). If you listen carefully to them you can peg them immediately. She was an easy one...
