My mother got it and said the same thing.

Thanks for the plug! As soon as I get the HSA debit card that my husband has been promising indefinitely, I plan to get the shingles shot. Our insurance doesn’t cover it, but I’m willing to pay to avoid it.

Sorry you had to go thru it. My neighbor had it and she was a mess for months. And months.

Since I had HORRIBLE chicken pox at age 13, I got the shot, though basically, I avoid drugs or shots or medicine for anything.

I agree with you. My mom suffered through it, but I don’t believe that you can get the shot until you are 60 years old.

I got it at our local Rite-Aid drugstore. REally inexpensive.

My PCP just told me to get that shot.
I asked him how on earth this has become such a huge issue.
Very, interesting reply: because a vaccine has been invented, that’s how.
My om had shingles a few years ago, I had never seen her cry from physical pain.
Glad you are recovering.

Unfortunately, the official CDC recommendation for the shingles vaccine is for 60 years or older.

I had it in my early 50's. My wife hasn't had it yet, but her employer is not covering it if you are under 60.

I’ve never known ANYONE who has or had the shingles. And just about everyone I know of has had the chickenpox.

Is it that prevalent that you need to worry about it?

My cousin got it and suffered for months. She said the pain was worse than childbirth. I went out and got the shot as soon as I could.

Been there, done that. Not fun. Plus, it can flare up repeatedly.

BTW, not everyone is a good candidate for the shot. At least they told me that I wouldn’t be. Can’t remember why; it’s been a while.

I had full blown chickenpox three times.
Can’t wait to see what happens if I got shingles.

You may wish to check with your County Health Dept. Some Counties filed for, and received grant $$ to provide Shingles Vaccinations to residents over 60. Free of charge. No income statements, etc. necessary. Just age 60.
Otherwise, it’s $225-$300 around here at Walgreens/CVS. Not cheap. Some insurance companies will cover it.

“My wife hasn’t had it yet, but her employer is not covering it if you are under 60. “

I got it at a store. I think it cost $15-25. For goodness sake, some things are worth spending the bucks for.

I was about seven when I got chickenpox all three times.
I’m now 38.

195 in Rhode Island without insurance. With insurance... $) if you get it a the clinics run by Blue Cross.

No side affects for me and I have an auto-immune disease called Polymyalgia Rhuematica. I was afraid I might have a bad reaction from the vaccine, but thank God I was OK.

I’m 47. It’s not cheap, but I’ll pay as opposed to taking the chance of catching it before I turn 60. I don’t have time for shingles, or any other dmn thing that doesn’t kill me quick.
