Hero of the Week - Ike Boutwell and Miami Dolphins

While there are always plenty of progressive liberals that seek to undermine our liberty to highlight as Jerk of the Week, it's a nice change of pace to showcase individuals who stand up to do the right thing. We have multiple people selected to be our Hero of the Week and they are Ike Boutwell and three members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins

Our first Hero of the Week is Ike Boutwell, who is a theater owner in Kentucky. Boutwell owns the Movie Palace and Showtime Cinemas and refuses to show The Butler, which was number one at the box office last week (and is filled with progressive liberal rewriting of history) as it features Jane Fonda. Boutwell refuses to show any film with Jane Fonda due to his conviction (and a correct one!) that Fonda is a traitor. Ike Boutwell is a veteran who served in the Korean War and trained pilots during the Vietnam War.

“I trained hundreds of pilots to fly, many of whom Ms. Fonda clapped and cheered as they were shot down,” he said. “Our Constitution only mentions three crimes. Treason is one. That’s aid and comfort to the enemy... To add to this, I just really think it’s a slap in the face to have a person of treason portray a patriotic lady, Mrs. Reagan. I just think that is throwing gas on the fire.”

While a few people are unhappy with his decision, Boutwell says he won't change his policy. “In life, you’ve got to stand for something, and that’s where I stand,” he said. “It makes me feel that I’m honoring those who died for this country.”

I applaud Boutwell for his decision along with his unbridled patriotism. While some may scream censorship, it isn't so. The film is playing in plenty of other theaters, so if someone really wants to see it, they're able to do so. If I lived in Elizabethtown, I would patronize his theater on a regular basis to show my support.

Our other Heroes of the Week are the three members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins who did not go to the photo-op at the Obama White House. Jim Langer, Manny Fernandez, and Bob Kuechenberg declined Obama's invitation to an event honoring the 1972 Dolphin's undefeated system due to political differences. The three men gave short statements saying that they couldn't go as they felt it wouldn't be right. Many in the left-wing sports media has jumped on these men, whining what's the big deal. You should go see the President and it's not a political event. Well, the truth is that it is political in that Obama will shamefully use any meeting as a photo-op to highlight himself as a uniter and common man, not the actual destructive and divisive person that he actually is.

For some strange reason, the same critics of the three Dolphins were strangely silent or cheered on people who refused to meet with President George W. Bush back in the day. Can you smell the hypocrisy? I personally think you should treat the office of the President with respect, but that doesn't mean you should allow yourself to be used as a prop by the President. None of the Dolphins cursed Obama or said derogatory things. They only said that they disagreed with him fundamentally and felt that it wouldn't be right to be part of the event. For standing up for their beliefs, Jim Langer, Manny Fernandez, and Bob Kuechenberg are also Heroes of the Week.

One of football’s greatest quotes, regarding an Oakland-Miami playoff game in the 1970s:

“Clarence Davis couldn’t catch a cold, but he makes the big catch to win it in the last 30 seconds. It was probably the only catch he ever made in his career.” — Manny Fernandez, Miami Dolphins defensive tackle.
