How Senator Palin Could 'Rehabilitate' the GOP
americanthinker.com ^ | 8/20/13 | Steve Flescher

Recently, Bill Kristol appeared on ABC. He answered a reader's question about Sarah Palin and spoke of her value to the party, her loyal supporters, and her potential in politics. He went on to suggest that she "rehabilitate" herself by running for the Senate in 2014.

"Rehabilitate" isn't exactly the term one would use when thinking of Sarah Palin's contribution to conservatism. In fact, as proven in election after election, the only folks who seem to need rehabilitating are some of the experts in the GOP. Despite their criticism, the former Alaska governor has made great strides in reshaping the House and Senate. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Tim Scott, and Deb Fischer are just a few she helped across the finish line.

So it's absurd to claim that Palin needs to seek any kind of rehabilitation from the party. To the contrary, the GOP should be sucking up to her. And instead of smugly suggesting that they'd be doing her the favor in supporting a Senate run, the fact is that establishment Republicans almost need her to fulfill their hopes of a Senate takeover in 2014.

There are of course many benefits to a possible Palin candidacy and accompanying Senate win. Here are a few:

Her name recognition equals national fundraising.

The national Democrats are ready to throw anything they have at keeping the Senate in 2014. Doing so will help them co-opt the president's agenda in his final two years of office.

Screw them. At this point, I'd almost be disappointed in Palin if she jumps into their game.

If elected, Palin would be marginalized in the same manner as Cruz and Lee.

That kind of statement from the GOP is what pisses me off the most about them

Sarah is not the one who needs to change.

And to suggest she could ‘rehabilitate’ herself by allowing herself to be assimilated to the GOP Borg just shows how stupid they are.

Sarah could waltz into any office she desires, and they are too stupid to see it.

It's up to Palin. If she proves to be a reformer not real interested in the RNC's views, she could be a real positive voice for conservatism. The US Senate could be her chance to show who she is and if she is an effective conservative pro-Constitution spokesperson.

Kristol seems to represent the old-style GOP which took over a number of years ago.

Palin represents the new energy.

Whether those two will find a way to work together, or whether Palin and the new people, have to throw off the old guard and start over, will be a major question in the not too distant future IMO.

I half hope, Palin and the other new people just toss off all allegiance to the GOP and start over.

I understand not a lot of people in the GOP are ready for that, but that’s just my opinion.

Don’t give Steve Flesher any publicity.

He is a gay rights activist who runs the website www.gayconservative.org.

He is using Sarah Palin to build support for his effort to repeal state constitution amendments across the country. In fact, he has overtaken Conservatives4Palin.com and become their lead moderator and number one columnists.

This is from his own website written days after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage:

EQUALITY IS COMING

I am finally able to say it: I’ve been in the loop on the first initiative of its kind here in Arizona. Currently, 12 states have legalized gay marriage. Now, Equal Marriage Arizona – helmed by conservatives and libertarians – has come out with amendments to the Arizona constitution that would legalize gay marriage for the first time in a Red State.

Sure make Sarah a senator.

Invite her to a few DC parties, she drinks the secret sauce, and she grows RINO horns.

Fat chance Billy!

Kristol knows that making Palin the topic is the surest way to get some attention. Condescending remarks are the safest way.

Irrelevant old gasbags keep a hit of Palin in their first aid kits.

Palin needs to consolidate the gains she made over the past few years since her VP spot on the Presidential ticket with McCain.

Nothing has happened (and she has DONE nothing) to devalue her brand.

It's time for her to capitalize on the grass roots support she has attained and move forward as the proper voice of Conservatism in America.

The status and utility of the GOP is nearing its end. The Tea Party IS and HAS all that Conservatives in America need ... except a leader.

I think it's Palin. The meter is running

I am sick and tired of folks claiming that Palin is not intelligent.

She did more on her own...and has a record of accomplishment both in Alaska and afterwards...than does the Obamadork.

Sorry, Obamadork b*ttlickers, your guy is just plain stupid.

If she DOESN’T run then she should not be taken seriously anymore. She’s had plenty of time off.

"If elected, Palin would be marginalized in the same manner as Cruz and Lee."

'Marginalized' maybe BUT the size of those being marginalized will soon be large enough to have a LOUD voice for those of us who have been 'sidelined' far too long!!!

Don’t worry about that question yet.

If Palin decides not to run this time, hopefully she will indicate to her millions of very enthused supporters throughout America, well in advance of her deciding to stand down.

I have seen no such indication from her.

None. Don’t distract from her now.

Now is her time.

So, do you and Sarah 'go back' a long, long way?!?

Your words seem to imply you two are 'close!'

Gimme a break. We need her in the arena not on the sidelines. If Begich gets reelected against a GOP second stringer in a red state-then what will you say? We need to squish our opponents like a bug and she’s the hammer.
