How one family’s immigration struggle defines the deporation debate
MSNBC ^ | 08/16/2013 | Benjy Sarlin,

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio may have been onto something when he said President Obama could halt deportations if immigration reform dies. To understand why, take a look at the Hernadez-Ramirez family in Ohio.

Like many American families, the Hernandez-Ramirez clan includes both American-born citizens and undocumented immigrants. Pedro Hernandez-Ramirez entered the country illegally from Mexico but his wife Seleste is American, as are Pedro’s three stepchildren and one biological son. Among his stepchildren is 24-year-old Juan, who suffers from cerebral palsy and requires constant care from Hernandez-Ramirez. Despite the family’s deep roots, immigration authorities threatened to split them up.

The Hernandez-Ramirez family is hardly an exception when it comes to illegal immigration, they’re actually closer to the norm. An estimated 9 million people living in America belong to “mixed-status” families that include at least one unauthorized immigrant and one American-born child, according to research by the Pew Hispanic Center.

Pedro Hernandez-Ramirez was deported earlier this year after a traffic stop prompted authorities to turn him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement ..Hernandez-Ramirez once more risked deportation and arrest to return to Ohio. It didn’t take long for authorities to catch up to him—he was picked up by ICE and charged with illegal re-entry. Those charges were dropped, but he remained in ICE custody and still faced removal as of this week.

AND NOW........“After conducting a further review of his case, ICE has granted Pedro Hernandez-Ramirez a one-year stay of removal,” ICE public affairs officer Khaalid Walls said.

So,Pedro Hernandez-Ramirez was deported earlier this year after a traffic stop and again he returns to this country and is caught again and now ice gives him a year and after the year is up, yet another year, and so on.No wonder illegals are commanding and demanding everything. They are treated lik V.I.P.S..It now seems being deported is not held againt the person be it 2 or 3 or 4.. The dude should of been deported after being caught 2nd time..

Let me tell you about my family’s “immigration struggle.”

I had to pay $1000, get my wife a medical and police check, and present three years of filed tax returns to get my wife a green card.

Now get to the back of the line.

This is curious.
The guy could quite easily have gotten legal status in spite of his illegal entry.
It sounds like they haven’t even filed for a change of status.
I suspect there may be something else going on with that marriage.

It does not “define” the immigration debate. Perhaps it “represents” or “exemplifies” or even “demonstrates”.

Some laws that the BO administration, Uncle Janet and Eric Holder are NOT enforcing:

Under federal law (8 U.S.C. § 1325), anyone who enters the Unites States illegally is committing a misdemeanor offense and can be sentenced to a fine or six months in prison. The federal law accompanying § 1325 is 8 U.S.C. § 1326 which makes the offense of reentering, or attempting to reenter the United States after being removed or deported a felony offense.

Also under USC § 1326 - Reentry of removed aliens: "..(1) whose removal was subsequent to a conviction for commission of three or more misdemeanors involving drugs, crimes against the person, or both, or a felony (other than an aggravated felony), such alien shall be fined under title 18, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both;

(2) whose removal was subsequent to a conviction for commission of an aggravated felony, such alien shall be fined under such title, imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both;

(3) who has been excluded from the United States pursuant to section 1225 (c) of this title because the alien was excludable under section 1182 (a)(3)(B) of this title or who has been removed from the United States pursuant to the provisions of subchapter V, and who thereafter, without the permission of the Attorney General, enters the United States, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under title 18 and imprisoned for a period of 10 years, which sentence shall not run concurrently with any other sentence..."

Exactly. In my case, it took several years, a lot of money for x-rays, job testing, etc, an investigation of me, the third generation US citizen, ridiculous court appearances, so many fees I can’t remember them all - and not a nickel of any public assisstance, medical or housing “benefits”. I’m not complaing - about that - but it does burn me when illegals get jumped to the head of the line and funded as well.

anecdotal BS

and

JOURNALISTIC MALPRACTICE.

1. there is a medical application if there is no medical help avalable in “old country”.

2. Custody follows the parents. If parents deported then child goes with parents and can return upon majority age.

3. There IS ALREADY ROLLING AMNESTY for those here for ten years.

hence the utter BS of this story.

Flame throwers at full on msnbc.

most of Congress watches msnbc not cnn or fnc.

this is coincide with the illegal aliens storming capital hill again today. Only now the illegal aliens (and communists/socialists) are storming the local offices.

Proof by anecdote. You don't get a very good grade in math classes that way.

What a pantload.
Illegal parents get threatened with deportation.
The big controversy is breaking up the family. (In this case the CP child is very likely getting free medical care)

Uhhhh, Why can’t the anchor babies go back to the motherland with the parents.?
The breaking up of the family is the family’s choice.

As did my family.
Things have changed.
Today, oaths mean squat, whether from elected criminals or illegal criminals.
