Yankees shocked, SHOCKED at steroid use in MLB!
Coach is Right ^ | 8/7/13 | Suzanne Eovaldi

“What do you mean, there’s gambling going on here; I didn’t know there was gambling going on; round up the usual suspects,” said the “Casablanca” police chief to Humphrey Bogart. This paraphrase of bewilderment on steroids comes to mind in the A-Rod debacle. The 1919 Chicago Black Sox scandal is no longer MLB’s most famous outrage, and the news boys will have to ask that iconic “Say It Ain’t So, Joe,” question all over again.

“Shoeless” Joe Jackson’s written confession still is gone missing, and the Windy City is no longer numero uno in baseball’s wall of shame. The A-Rod, MLB Management, NY Yankees hypocrisy triangle now displaces the meme of the eight White Sox players accused but never convicted of...

And why hasn’t MLB and the commissioner vacated wins for the Yankees, et al?

This is worse than the 1919 Black Sox scandal. I always felt sorry for some of the dupes who got barred for life. Buck Weaver never took any money. Shoeless Joe Jackson probably lacked the mental capacity to fully understand what he was doing and only went along because of teammates he thought were friends.

Pitcher Eddie Cicotte was probably the most tragic of the bunch. He had been promised a $5000 bonus for a 30 game winning season and got benched with over two weeks left in the season after he notched win #29. Comiskey told him it was to save his arm for the World Series, but Cicotte knew that was a crock. He was nearing the end of his career and really needed the money to care for a growing family and aging relatives. He took only $5,000 of the $10,000 bribe offered to each player.

How many teams have players who are suspended?

Because they aren’t the NCAA. We don’t vacate wins in American pro sports.

Your question presumes a fact not in evidence. Yankee wins. The NYY have to have the fewest wins per payroll dollar of any team in MLB. Tampa Bay, on the other hand, gets about as many wins as the Red Sox, with one third the payroll.

Guess they weren’t embarrassed enough in the 80’s when the Pirate Parrot mascot was smuggling cocaine and amphetamines into the clubhouse, and arranging additional buys for players at a local dive bar.

They should remove all drug rules from sports. If they want to be super heros let them makes it a better game. I loved watching 70 hr in a season.

I know A-Rod heard boo’s in Chicago but I bet he gets a standing ovation at the next home game.

As a Cassablanca purist, Captain Renault's line was "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here."

"Round up the usual suspects" comes after Major Strasser is shot.

Carry on.

long on hyperbole, short on facts.

The Yankees made probably the biggest mistake in the history of their franchise when they signed ARoid but they were not the only team to turn a blind eye to what was was going on.
Comrade Bud’s team signed a known user and conspired to get him off on a technicality. Multiple players from multiple teams have been suspended and I believe Alex was the first active roster Yankee player to actually get dinged. Not that he is/was the only guy on the Yanks to use, he was just the first to get caught. Should the Brewers, Giants, Dodgers, Tigers, Rays, Phillies, Reds all forfeit their wins because players decided to take a supplement that would blow positive without their knowledge?

I think this entire thing stinks because of a willingness to turn a blind eye to a problem that has been festering for years. It should be a one and done with total forfeiture of contract money owed. Keep the junk out of the game and I don’t blame people that stopped watching MLB because of it. I have a friend that is a huge Giants fan and vowed to stay away from the game because of the whole thing surrounding Bonds. I wonder if he has enjoyed the last few years?

Owners like the Yankees should not be making money on this. Contract money saved should be given to charities. Owners need to be above reproach too.
