There is a strange article by the Kansas City Star, known for its anti-gun editorials.
At the end of the article, it casually mentions that the restaurant manager comes out and shoots at the fleeing robbers, who just wounded a woman at an outside table:
The gunman aimed and fired as Lacy flinched from the loud bang.
The robbers then ran away.
As the men fled with the purses, the pizza shop manager came out and fired shots at the robbers, police said.
The police were not sure if the robbers were hit, or not, but it is clear that the Star is not giving any possible credit to the manager for chasing off the robbers or saving the woman who was wounded.
At massappealnews.com the take is a little different:
One woman refused and was shot. The pizza shop manager came outside and fired shots at the suspects who fled with the womens purses.
The second account seems more likely to me, as the robbers did not take the bag that they shot the woman to acquire.
The robbers were also so rushed, that they were forced to carjack a person about a block away. Successful robbery plans of a restaurant do not include a carjacking.
This appears to be a successful defensive gun use.
The woman was treated and released at a local hospital. She suffered from a graze wound to the neck that required stitches.

I originally came across this story in the New York Times opinion page, on a list of shootings. I often find defensive shooting there, with a little research of the actual events.

My husband worked in a sporting goods store when he was young.
He taught me to shoot. It was great. One of my favorite target was bin Laden...I got so I could get that bushy throat every time....:o)...from at least 15 feet away.

It’s now “Aura” and crazy packed on the weekends. Santora’s has a good business model of providing cheap slices to drunk people. :-)
