Ugh. I hate those storms and stickers in the yard. But, I admit, it’s nice not having to mow our dead yard. :)
And the sand storms aren’t very common.
Yeah, you got me curious too. Whereabouts you moving to?
This is a good point. A lot of Texans are scared of all the Californians moving to Texas.
However, I recently saw a study that indicated most moving are more conservative than liberal.
The liberal Californians would in general refuse to move to TX no matter what, except....maybe.....Austin. But even that is questionable due to the hot weather. They will go to Denver.
I will be joining you in leaving CA in three years.
California: -1 Tax paying, law abiding citizen
Wow!!!!
Welcome to Texas! I have lived my whole life on the Gulf Coast of Texas but I love west Texas and the hill country too. Texas has variety.
Oh, we are not moving yet, just in the research stages. Indianapolis, Indiana appears to be one of the fastest-growing spots in the Midwest, and the house we could get there is insane.
I grew up in KS obviously per my name, but Wichita’s future is in doubt with aircraft, so we are looking at Kansas City.
We may move to Dallas as well because my wife needs a bigger job market for her nonprofit work than Midland has...lots here due to all the oil family foundations, but still not quite enough. But, it would still be hot there. The main reason we are looking to move is climate. She has a heat allergy, so it’s hard for her to stay out very long in summer....she gets heat rashes and can’t sweat hardly at all either.
Any move would not take place until next summer or later as I am a teacher though.
But, anybody moving to West Texas is making a good decision for their economic future. Lots of jobs. Just don’t expect trees and green....aside from cash. :)
Sincere congrats! You seem to literally be bouncing with happiness.
Being West Texas, you should have linked to a Tech video. :)
Congratulations! I left CA 10 years ago, and haven’t been back.
Just be careful who you tell that you’re from CA, and you’ll do fine.
Also, of course any move would depend upon the ability to get jobs. Not moving without a teaching job for me or nonprofit job for the wife.
Congratulations! Excellent decision! I left California in 2003 and have never regretted it. You won’t either! Welcome to Texas.
Congratulations! We left 8 years ago.
West Texas is a whole other planet compared to California. I once kidded a friend who was raised in NJ and moving to the Houston area that Texas law requires new residents of the state to own a firearm and if they didn’t own one already they had 90 days to comply!
You’ll never regret it. We left SoCal in 2010 for the eastern Tennessee Bible Belt, and we thank God every day. Congratulations!
...we will be leaving liberal California at the end of August.
Congratulations, lilyramone! I predict you're going to love living in America.
I left the People's Republic of California in 2002. I continued to miss the beaches and mild winters several years, but nothing could persuade me to go back even on a vacation.
Avoid West Odessa....looks like a third world country. West Midland is nice (we live there, and I teach in Odessa). Also, east Odessa is nice and has the “new” look of many shopping developments that we love when we visit Dallas or other big cities where the suburbs all have nice shopping areas etc.
Good luck finding a house! It’s tough, but they are building a lot now. If I were to estimate, we could probably sell ours for 30k more than we bought it, so the shortage of supply is really helping values.
A house I could buy for 60k back home in Kansas is 110k here.
