And so do I.

I think we should also abandon Afghanistan. In fact, why is the world our responsibility. Let them fight it out and kill each other off.

I agree.
We were justified to go in there post-9/11 to crack some heads, and decimate the Taliban supporters -- but 'Nation-building' was always a bridge too far, and never was going to happen.
And now with the current 'folks' in the White House - they've defined the Rules of Engagement to put our troops continually in harm's way. Just leave it.

Rule One: Any country where we have to spend over 10,000 American lives defending it becomes American territory. PERIOD. Rule Two: Whenever we have to go into a country to help them, their minerals and oil become ours for ten to twenty years, depending on the scale of the intervention. Rule Three: All non-Security Council members with nuclear weapons have one year to disarm or they will be annihilated.

We should have been out of Afghanistan in late 2002 / early 2003, right after the punitive expedition phase, before the meals on wheels phase.

I will admit I didn’t realize it at the time, but then I don’t get paid to think about these things full time.
