How would the recipient (Reid in this case) know where the individual donors got their money from (Harvey Whittemore)?
I agree though that donors shouldn't be able to buy political influence by donating to campaigns whose money is largely at the disposal of the candidate/officeholder.
They should funnel campaign contributions through bonded third parties who keep individual donors' identity confidential from the public and the candidates.

How would the recipient (Reid in this case) know where the individual donors got their money from (Harvey Whittemore)? How would Harvey benefit from his "generosity" if Harry didn't know where the individual donors got their money from?
