While the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal this morning gave front-page coverage to yesterday's grisly beheading of a British serviceman on a London street in broad daylight, the New York Times placed their 20-paragraph story by London correspondent John F. That’s easy. They don’t hate religion, they despise it (the two terms are not exactly interchangeable). The attitude of all these trendy intellectual secularists, steeped as they are in the rationalism and the traditions of “the enlightenment”, is a curious mix of contempt and cowardice. They have contempt for all religious activity, but they are only scared of some of it. Specifically those components which reward their sneering condescension with violence.
