Hmm. Sen. Coburn Hints that Another Benghazi Shoe May Drop
PJ Media ^ | 5/9/2013 | Bryan Preston

What is Sen. Tom Coburn getting at here?

Oklahoma senator Tom Coburn revealed that he believes “the State Department has real trouble” after yesterday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on Benghazi, but said this morning that, at the moment, he can’t reveal why.

“Having sat on the Intelligence Committee and seen the review of e-mails that went back and forth as they developed the list, there’s a glaring problem there that will eventually come out — and I can’t talk about it now — but there was an omission that was given to the intelligence committee,” Coburn said on Morning Joe today.

An “omission.” What could that be?

Ed Morrissey speculates that it could have to do with Greg Hicks’ conversations with Hillary Clinton and Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Beth Jones. Hicks testified that he briefed Clinton during the attack and never said anything about a YouTube movie. The movie was, in his words, a “non-event” in Libya. Clinton, Rice, et al blamed the movie starting on September 12, and Hicks asked Jones why. She answered that she didn’t know, and soon after that she went on the bureaucratic warpath against Hicks resulting in his eventual demotion. But an email produced by Rep. Trey Gowdy showed Jones telling the Libyan president that Ansar al-Sharia was behind the attack. That email was from September 12, before Ambassador Rice went on her magical Benghazi movie tour on five Sunday talk shows, so the State Department was already aware that the movie had nothing to do with the attack. Yet they blamed the movie, from the top down. They even cut a PSA in Pakistan apologizing for it, one of the more craven acts ever undertaken by a US administration, even if the movie had caused the attack. Which it didn’t.

The email is significant in addressing the state of knowledge at the top level of the State Department during and immediately after the attack. I don’t think that that email is the omission, unless State failed to provide it to the ARB. If State did fail to provide it to the ARB, that in and of itself would be significant, and open up obvious questions about what else State omitted delivering to its hand-picked internally controlled “investigation” that failed even to interview Clinton herself.

Any fellow FReepers willing to join the speculation on Colburn's "Glaring Omission?"

I caught a portion of an interview with Michele Bachmann Wednesday afternoon. She said something along the same lines as Senator Coburn. She knows something because of her position on another Committee. I believe she said she sits on the House Intelligence Committee. Regardless, she suggested she knows something significant that would eventually be made known.

I am going to call my Congressman to find out where he stands on a joint committee.

That’s a little harsh this early in the game. Let’s give him a week or two and then call BS if nothing is forthcoming.

Exactly!

Put it out there for the families of those murdered.

I agree. It is likely a crime to reveal classified information. As much as I want to know what he is referring to, he must go through an orderly process. And frankly, we should want him to go through that process.

This early in the game? WHEN were our countrymen murdered in Benghazi?

Then shoes need to start dropping. This is a major issue. Perhaps those that know what happened but are legally required to keep quiet until the proper time just need face the punishment and talk. Our Founders risked much more than jail time. Thoreau insisted that risking jail time for standing up for one’s beliefs should be an everyday activity. We are beyond proper protocol with this issue. People need to start talking now before somebody permanently silences them.

How many times have these politicians and personalities tried to make news about something that will soon break, only to have their grand ‘break’ fizzle?

If it is important enough to talk about now, it is important enough to reveal now.

We have enough soap opera on TV. We don’t need it coming from politicians who are trying to get face time on TV.

I’m sorry but this really pisses me off. Leave it to the Rinos to tease and hold something back. They probably want it to drip drip drip and trickle out so it gets closer to the midterms, hence doing the maximum damage to the democrats. So sick of all these games.

May be an attempt to spark enough interest to make this a Sunday talk show topic...

I couldn’t believe my ears this morning when ABC Radio news broadcast a news story on some Benghazi emails they uncovered.

All it would take is for someone to leak a scoop to ABC which would then spark up CBS to quit suppressing a story they should own via Sharyl Atkisson’s reporting. Once the networks start to compete with one another, the story has a small chance of gathering momentum. Until then, we’ll get the same old posturing and calculated ignoring of the story.

Someone wake me from this dream...

Thanks very much, hoosiermama.
If Coburn can’t tell what he knows, then he’d better arrange a “Washington” leak.

The Benghazi Patsy

The man who made the video that didn’t cause the attack has been made a scapegoat.

By Rich Lowry

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula deserves a place in American history. He is the first person in this country jailed for violating Islamic anti-blasphemy laws.

You won’t find that anywhere in the charges against him, of course. As a practical matter, though, everyone knows that Nakoula wouldn’t be in jail if he hadn’t produced a video crudely lampooning the prophet Mohammed.

After the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, the Obama administration claimed the terrorist assault had been the outgrowth of a demonstration against the video. In a speech at the United Nations, the president declared — no doubt with Nakoula in mind — “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

After Benghazi, the administration was evidently filled with a fierce resolve — to bring Nakoula to justice. Charles Woods, the father of a Navy SEAL killed in Benghazi, said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told him when his son’s body returned to Andrews Air Force Base: “We will make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”
