It’s so obvious that you wonder about the intelligence and sanity of so called ‘politicians’ who haven’t (won’t) grasp this.
The sad truth is that they do not care one iota about that outcome. They likely assuage any possibility of guilty feelings by believing that it is inevitable anyway. The ONLY concern that they have is that they stay in control, above the rabble and their petty problems. Nothing else matters.
