I though most freepers did not approve of the way the man-hunt was conducted and used terms like, ‘govt invasion’ or ‘thugs’, or ‘police state’, etc. How is that different from what this person says?

I agree with you... And I am appalled to read here on this thread that some FR member approve of Constitutional Violations to capture two fugitives. I can only hope that some who post here are just ignorant of the reasons for the Revolutionary War — heard of unreasonable searches and seizures anyone? If you are not aware of the conduct of the combined forced of Federal police of various flavors, state police, local police and what looked like National Guard - then go get yourself aware. The massing of an army of LEO to hunt down two - then one terrorist was overkill. In most photos whether searching or at the end most of the cops were standing around. There was confusion of whose jurisdiction it was - what action was to be taken, etc. Bottom line we don’t take an army down residential streets terrorizing the citizens who have been ordered to stay in place without proper authority. And we certainly do not allow LEO to bang on doors - force everyone out with their hands in the air - then enter the house to search - all done with NO WARRANT - NO PROBABLE cause. It just looked like a building clearing in Irag. And Watertown is NOT IRAG. There are a dozen questions here regarding the appropriateness of the police conduct. What authority was being used to involve the National Guard? Did the Governor issue a call up? I don’t remember reading about one. LEOs or troops in AMERICA do not point weapons at civilians while making a sweet down residential streets. All I can say is if you are one who believe that mounting an Irag and Afghanistan style urban building search - all done with brute force is okay in America - even when hunting for TWO armed and dangerous fugitives - then I feel sorry for your parents as they wasted money on your education. Yes - the blast scene was horrific - but no act of terror allows this government to trash the Constitution.... Give up your freedoms and liberties folks - NOT MINE.

An Army formed for TWO Terrorists...!!! Wow! What if there had been twenty terrorists? — do we get 5000 LEOs and Troops? .... What if there were 100 Terrorists? Do we call out the 82nd. Airborne Division - cordon off Watertown - pull everyone from their homes and put them in hastily assembled containment areas behind hurricane fenced enclosures... question some of them using forceful methods - all without warrants, the end justifies the means - is that it ?

I thought the way the house-to-house searches were conducted was over the top, particularly the way innocent people were manhandled. The display of helicopters, armored vehicles and full automatic weapons made me wonder if the 2nd Amendment will be adequate when the SHTF. I agree with the use of any necessary force against the terrorists, I don't agree with how innocent citizens were treated.

Maybe they believed what they did, was the use of any necessary force against terrorists? Sort of like collateral damage in warfare...most people are ok with that, aren’t they?

I agree. We used far too much force. Putting an entire city on martial law to catch one punk is insane. They trampled the constitutional rights of THOUSANDS and endangered them. Dragging people out of their homes and sticking guns in their faces... and in the end none of that caught the guy. They only found him after the lock down was over because a citizen saw something and phoned it in. They trampled all those rights and risked those lives for nothing.

That is right... even calling it a ‘lockdown’ as if our houses are prison cells and they can order us back to them anytime they one... revolting.

Maybe he’d like to attend the funeral of the victims

Give me a break. More people died in West Texas and they did not send as many first responders to dig them out.

The “professor” is a fool. If it weren’t for tenure, people like this would be wandering the streets begging. What a complete subhuman loser.

Honestly I hope there is a class action suit and the citizens of Boston take the government for BILLIONS for this civil rights atrocity.

I am sure the professor is a moron and probably my arguments for ‘too much force’ don’t match that commies arguments... but I agree with the basic premise that this was unreasonable overkill. If they had deployed that much force WITHOUT trampling our rights and treating citizens like inmates... then I would be fine with it. However it is pretty hard to deploy what amounts to an army on US soil and no trample someones rights.

I would agree, if the good professor was referring to the wholesale violations of the 4th Amendment that took place for virtually the entire town of Watertown, with thousands of innocent families being herded from their homes at gunpoint without any probable cause reasonable suspicion, or specific exigent circumstances... but I doubt that is the topic behind that comment.

Maybe they found him hiding in a boat, because the house-to-house searches flushed him out, and into the boat? Sort of like using dogs when rabbit hunting.

If someone knocked on my door and said, “Hey there. We think there is a badguy around and we think we can find him faster if we shove a rifle in your face and then search your house...is that ok with you?” Guess what my answer would be? It starts with ‘go’ and ends with ‘-k yourself’.

So you would say that to people with guns pointed at your kids?

Are you familiar with Henry the IV? Falstaff has the line...”The better part of valor is discretion, in the which better part I have sav’d my life.”

exactly what they did and continue to do in Iraq...Iraqi security forces today went in to a Sunni camp in Kirkuk and slaughtered - from what reports say - around 40 Sunni’s that have been causing chaos pre-elections...

People who point guns at my kids get shot without warning.

How brave of you to strut about FR. Those cops were on the receiving end of live explosives and bullets that day. One was killed. That was real. On the other hand you are having a daydream. I am not surprised you can’t see the difference.
