In my opinion, when the SHTF, you will need to rely on other persons; you cannot go it alone. However, if any of the more severe disaster scenarios occurs, especially if it extends over a long period of time, many persons who before seemed calm, reasonable, and reliable will be struck with fear and, as a result, they might behave differently. Desperate people do desperate things. So be careful whom you trust.

Preppers’ PING!!
Good article; thanks.
I once knew a farmer who had four daughters: Faith, Hope, Charity, and Prudence.
Faith was an atheist.
Hope was emo.
Charity was a miser.
Prudence was a naked rock-climber who rode ziplines during lightning storms.
Everyone’s situation is different. Some will have people they can trust, some won't. My public profile is so low, I'm almost nonexistent here.
In a huge meltdown, I might have three family members here and that's it. None of them have anything stored to donate to the “cause”, but I knew that and have enough provisions for them. That would give me two males and one woman here besides myself. One of those males is my son who is six feet of strength and can handle a weapon. The other male is a liberal who carries a weapon and right now wouldn't shoot anyone for any reason. Carrying a weapon is a macho ego thing only. He might change under duress since my son would be an example.
Everyone has to determine their own plan they think will work to provide for and secure their own future.
Key words of the article “..... be careful whom you trust, and how much you trust.....”
We used to have salt of the earth neighbors but not now days. They’re all pansy liberal city slickers who should be avoided like the plague. One such family wears cammo and lug around arrows that never seem to hit anywhere near a target. They also think they have to have an outdoor fire going 24/7 never mind high winds or fire bans and theifire is never watched. A couple days ago they managed to set their deck on fire. It was 30 minutes before they came out with more logs and noticed it. Idiots stood around scratching their heads. They’re not the only ones who seem to enjoy fires.
- - - - Holy cow! Some idiot (yeah, we have a lot) just flew his plane barely above the fence line.... dang fool. Looked like a kit plane. A couple years ago another idiot decided to do a touch and go about once a week for a month a 100 feet from our house. Tried reporting that guy but no luck. So, to speak to the thread no way do I trust anyone around here. I might not last long but I’d last longer alone.
As for the new neighbors ,, we here have in place a plan, as most can’t be trusted . Big city gonna move to the country ,I’m better than you attitude , we don’t need them.
