Having landed squarely on my testes in the commission of numerous stupid college stunts, I can tell you personally that you do NOT get up that quick.
He may be an unidentified Republican politician in which case he had little or nothing to be concerned about should something go wrong and he straddle the beam.
And that, boys and girls, is why the balance beam is an event ONLY for female gymnasts..

You are correct. You lay there for a few seconds trying to remember how to breathe!
One particular event in my mind still evinces a squint and a cringe from my subconscious. I was balled up on the ground for a good 5 minutes before I could A) breathe, B) speak, and C) walk.
