Must be if they have to be "protected" from voluntary private acts of adults.

Teaching sex in schools, sex on TV shoved in the faces of kids, sex parades down the street: "voluntary PRIVATE acts" of adults??

What adults do in private is not even an issue. What libertarians want is PUBLIC and IN OUR FACES cerlebration of their perversions.

Did I say they were?

What adults do in private is not even an issue.

So you support legality of, say, porn or drug use by adults in private?

That is still in dispute in libertarian circles and you know it.

Good thing you mentioned it, there are many shades of libertarian from liberal to conservative.

They all agree they don’t want to decriminalize the extermination of abortionists though.

you can mail the stuff but the sender has to check to see if you don’t want it mailed to him or her. you really don’t want to get hit with the bill for doing that.

I believe that exterminating abortionists should remain illegal. If that makes me a liberal libertarian, so be it.

Converting every libertarian won't change that.

I have argued the issues with them for years and often enjoy the exchange without getting too frustrated that we don't see eye to eye.

As always, you provide a wonderful summarizing post when you chime in on a thread.

Funny you should ask: ‘Current federal “obscenity” laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier.’ - http://web.archive.org/web/20120216090208/http://www.ricksantorum.com/enforcing-laws-against-illegal-pornography

So given that you say, "What adults do in private is not even an issue" do you support legality of porn use by adults in private?

and drug legalization is a bad idea

So when you said, "What adults do in private is not even an issue" you meant to add "unless I consider what those adults do in private to be a bad idea"? Pretty big exception there.

I believe that carrying out capital punishment (and other criminal sanctions) should be reserved to the government.

No execution should result from a private decision ~ no innocent person should be executed ~ all executions must be preceded with public trials.

Pretty basic stuff. So why are abortionists allowed to make a private decision to execute the innocent, and all without a trial?

Seems like a serious discontinuity to me ~ the sort we make exceptions for ~ like outlaw abortionists! That's an exception virtually everyone can live with.

“They left out God.”

True. I demand imposition of a Roman Catholic Monarchy.

(Yes, sarcasm, but to prove a point. I happen to be Roman Catholic, albeit a very conservative one compared to 99% of my co-religionists. Since you believe “God” is a necessary part of the political platform, I suppose you mean the imposition of an acceptable form of worship of God and his Christ, in the confines of his true Church, and not some schismatic stuff. And certainly no Jews allowed.

Right?)

We'll have the votes to ban abortion before we have the votes to declare open season on abortionists.

“Conservatives don’t believe in personal freedom?”

Many so-called conservatives believe in the imposition of their version of morality by the force of government.

See it on Freerepublic all the time.

First of all, your chart’s view of the right is wholly flawed - I am hard-core far right Reagan Conservative, and I do not believe any of those things.

Secondly, proper Conservatism contains a libertarian core which comes from the Goldwater wing of the Republican Party, not the Libertarian Party. Goldwater libertarianism is far more palatable to Conservatives because it is their root.

Lastly, in every case where it has been tried, putting social issues on the back burner results in Social Conservatives staying home. You will not win without the Christians. Period.

What is necessary to unite Conservatives is the removal of the malformations which the neocons have morphed from originating Conservative principles - Some of which your chart defines as what ‘the right’ believes - And by that inherently, a return to those principles.

I am dismayed that there are people these days who believe conforming to natural law is "statist."

That depends almost wholly on the definition of natural law - I have a suspicion (by your handle) that you may understand the difference between the Roman 'natural law' and the Celtic natural law which is the deep and abiding tradition ensconced in the English Common Law - That which our founders found precedence in, along with the Laws of Jehovah. One cannot understand terms like 'true religion' or 'nature's God' without a passing glance at such.

What adults do in private is not even an issue.

So you support legality of, say, porn or drug use by adults in private?

porn is not illegal now is it?

Funny you should ask: ‘Current federal “obscenity” laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier.’ - http://web.archive.org/web/20120216090208/http://www.ricksantorum.com/enforcing-laws-against-illegal-pornography

So given that you say, "What adults do in private is not even an issue" do you support legality of porn use by adults in private?

satellite TV and internet is “private” now?

If it's a paid service, it's private in every relevant sense - as is porn obtained at a retail shop, or in the mail in the proverbial plain brown wrapper, and viewed in private.
