A college education has never been more expensive than it is now.
#The tuition rates at state colleges and universities have seen double-digit increases the past few years. The increase in college costs mean the pool of cash for financial aid does not go as far.
#And this weeks state budget projection shows a $1.3 billion (yes, with a B) gap between anticipated tax revenue and anticipated expenses.
#Yet, the state House on Wednesday approved 77-20 a proposal that would make young illegal immigrants eligible for state college financial aid.
#In theory, if money was no object, offering every qualified kid whether born in the U.S. or an immigrant, legal or illegal an opportunity to get a college education would be reasonable.
#But clearly money is a huge issue. The plan approved by the House, when calculating the estimated number of illegal immigrants eligible, will require adding about $3.3 million over the next two years to the State Needs Grant program.
#But if lawmakers add $3.3 million to the financial aid program, money will be taken from other programs or taxes added. If no more funding is available (a more likely scenario), the pool of applicants will grow for the same number of (or, perhaps, fewer) slots to receive aid. Thats the hard reality of this situation.
#It doesnt feel right cutting off aid to citizens and essentially giving it to illegal immigrants.
#An earlier version of the legislation seemed far more appropriate than the version thats now on its way to the Senate for debate.

As long as the regime can create Baraqqi/Bernanke/Lew minibucks and buy elections with entitlements, I don’t see any change. When the markets finally wake up and demolish the dollar, then you’re correct.
It isn’t right...but these jerks have been doing it for years, one program after another.
This really stinks when you are aware that tuition assistance has been cut for our military!! I know that has nothing to do with WA but if these states think they can scrape up money for illegals to go to college they should instead donate the money to the fund for military tuition assistance.
My grandson attends college in Oklahoma and was on a work-study program last year, 4 hours a day, 5 days a week @ $5.00/hour. They “needed” to include more kids this year so they cut everyone down to 1 hour per day, 5 days a week @ $5.00/hour. It costs him more in gas to get to the place where he works and back to the dorm than he makes. Told him to forget it. Turns out that most of the kids getting the hours are students from Jamaica who have a full-ride scholarship to play baseball plus the income from work-study.
Not to worry, the feds will sue them to allow it.
"Ya think, DiNozzo?"
State doesn’t have cash to fund college grants for illegal immigrants
