I’m a Kentucky voter and I would say Kentucky isn’t as Republican as some folks might think. This state elected and re-elected a Democrat govenor and a Democrat attorney general. In spite of turning out by a 63% margin for Romney, Obamacare will now get rolled out anyway to KY thanks to Kentuckian’s foolish vote for govenor and particularly attorney general. Statistically, many who voted for Romney also had to have voted for Bashear(gov) and Conway(AG).
Do you think McConnell can be defeated in a primary? Do you think some other republican could win the general election?
Fixed it.
Unfortunately, no I do not believe he could be defeated. He would barely win a primary, then maybe loose by a small margin or win by a small margin in the general. I’m no more a fan of McConnell than you are but it’s risky right now. I’ll just say that much. At the heighth of Tea Party fervor, a tea party candidate got beat in a primary election for gov. in 2011. A very unpopular Republican insider won the primary then went on to get defeated by a huge margin the general election for gov. in 2011. It’s disheartening to say the least.
At Obama’s suggestion, McConnell and his buddy Reid were the ones who foisted sequestration onto the Congress in order to help Boehner undercut the TEA Party freshmen in the House.
Just what do you expect a Minority Leader to do? Without the votes to run the joint, all he can do is delay and sometimes frustrate the Senate majority — and McConnell has done a good job at that.
To add to my previous comment, I have posted on this topic not long ago elsewhere that the voters in Kentucky seem to almost be schitzofrinic(spelling). It’s as if they want both guns and foodstamps at the same time.
Pretty much like West Virginia. Both states will vote GOP for President, but the Dems hold sway in most state and local elections. In my opinion, McConnell faces an uphill battle be it the primary or general election because Tea Party types will no longer support him. Standing on purity of principle is the right thing for conservatives to do, but too often is the wrong thing to do politically in trying to win elections. Kentucky may be a pick up in the Senate for the Rats come 2014.
mitch is a little man who appears to have been neutered along with Juan Boehner
Exactly. You nailed it.
“Kentucky may be a pick up in the Senate for the Rats come 2014.”
If this is in fact the case, then we’ll have to make up the loss elswhere, in AR, AK, SD, NJ, WV, NH, MT, LA, IA, VA, NC or MN.
And even if this is the case, at least the senate repulicans will have a new, better leader (unless Cornyn is reelected and moves up, which will essentially be the same old thing).
What you see here is the GOP version of Done While Democrat. People just don’t want to hear how bad McConnell is because he is the Senate GOP “leader”.
“People just dont want to hear how bad McConnell is because he is the Senate GOP leader.”
That and they don’t like to see conservatives or republicans going after their own. It’s a safe seat, it’s a safe “R”, don’t rock the boat they’ll say.
I’m just sick of this this type of thinking, the idea that we just keep the same worthless people term after term because they’re supposedly on “our side.” We saw this with Specter, safe seat, safe “R”, then we reelected him and had a liberal republican in charge of the judiciary committee, blocking conservative judges and pushing immigration reform from a far left standpoing. And we saw it with Ted Stevens, istead of telling him to retire, they supported his reelection then he was indicted just before the election and that seat is now democrat. And on, and on.
McConnell has been in the senate since 1984. He’s minority leader on the verge of being majority leader. He doesn’t give a damn about conservatism. He wants more power. I wish somebody within the repulican caucus would stand to run against him, but they won’t because they know the rest will rally around McConnell. So I’m advocating that McConnell needs to be removed by the people, since that’s our only hope of getting new leadership.
