You got a glimpse of the transformed America Obama has been crowing about.
This much I can tell you: that was my dad (but he's retired, now).
Get used to it.
I grew up in a place where this was the norm; I experienced it when I broke my arm and my dad had to take me on multiple bus rides until the ‘right’ place could mend it.
Problem was that we didn’t have a ‘poor card’ you see.
As another post said, let us all get used to it.
You have a script. Go to an emergency room. With a script they can’t turn her away.
Don’t go to urgent care for anything serious, just don’t.
I’ve only gone a few times and every time they misdiagnosed and mis-treated.
Let me guess— You’re white, have health insurance and are legal citizens? Three strikes you’re out!
Doc-in-a-box just plain sucks.
That “nurse” using her thumb to check the pulse should have been the cue to get out of there. The clinic sounds like a place set up to bill medicare exclusively ... to the hilt.
I live in an area with a large population where there is a medical system with multiple hospitals and an urgent care center. The level of competence is different in each one. I would suggest that you try the emergency room next time. It may cost more money, but the level of care will be better. Always go to a main hospital or one that is a major trauma center if you can. You don’t need to have major trauma to go there, but the care is likely to be better.
It sounds like you might have had a close encounter with some of SEIU’s finest.
Her insurance may have a co-pay that equated to $100. The rest of the story: Gross Incompetence. Not typical, either.
I ALWAYS take charge of my medical care. I never sit there like a bump on a log waiting for a script to be written.
How scary! Maybe you live in the wrong state? Lots of good care here in MN. I hope your wife gets an x-ray and competent care!
Imho, the problem may be that you went to an “urgent care facility”. In my experience, it’s best to locate a hospital in your area that has a history of excellent medical care.
Have you tried our fast food?
We have turned into a third world country in respect to healthcare. And this has been happening for a long time.
What to do?
In your shoes I would get myself aligned with a comprehensive healthcare group in an upper middle class communtiy nearby. No more getting healtcare where the government supported go. No more doc ina box.
Do not exepect diagnostics and know that watchful waiting is the word. No xray until there is an obvious issue besides pain and swelling, very poor medical care and self advocacy needed.
Never ever admit to a hosptial without 24 hour family, or friend or hired private care. It is now third world and you will want to write down all medicine and check what is given. I am serious. Soon private small hosptials will be popping up. Go there.
What is an “urgent care center”?
We go to the doctor’s office, or the ER.
Well, if she’s in network, it’s mostly likely that she would pa a $100 co-pay, which is usually waived if she is admitted into the hospital itself. We would cover 80% and the patient responsibility would go to the patient’s out of pocket expenses.
Out of network and there is no co-pay but it would go towards her deductible. After she met that, we would cover a percentage of the allowed amount.
That would be why they were asking about in or out of network, didn’t mean she ouldn’t be treated, only how much it would cost.
This will be considered Cadillac Health Care in a couple of years. That’s not all bad though. You can’t be abused by incompetent quacks if you can’t get an appointment to see one.
