Of course not. Corporate makes all the calls. The DJs are reduced to saying silly things and making sure they commercials are sequenced properly. It bites.

I miss those radio shows that took requests. Back before KUSC, at 91.5 megacycles, went all-classical, it featured a variety of programs including a Sunday-night "Oldies" show on which the DJ, Lane Quigley, invited listeners to phone in requests. So I requested Bazoom! by the Cheers, a forgotten hit unlikely to be requested by anyone else--and was astounded to hear it five minutes later. I was soon regularly making requests on that program.
Too true. We have a more recent station in S. MS (BOB 104.9) that claims it will play anything. It does manage to hit a number of genres, but if you listen at the same time for 3 days running, you will hear about 10 repeat songs. Hard to believe they can't do better than that for variety.
