Ideology should be a major factor in selecting candidates, but in order to advance conservative, free-market, pro-founding principles, competence needs to be factored in.

If ideology alone were the issue, the only person for whom I would vote would be me.

Whither American Conservatism?.

As for Karl Rove & the Tea Party groups? Contrast what the Tea Parties achieved in 2010 with the disaster that Rove engineered in 2006: Karl Rove & Republican Disaster.

I do not want to sound like a broken record, but Karl Rove is all about memory (rote), he lacks analytical competence. Even from his cynical perspective, he cannot deliver practical results, because he is chasing yesterday's popular line-ups; the understanding of how to change public opinion is beyond his grasp.

Please! Before anyone gives this man additional credence, reexamine what he has not accomplished, although he had all the resources someone more adequate could ever have asked for!

First a response to the question;

The Tea Party had no British ships to board nor casks of tea to dump overboard.

We had symbolic ships and casks, but no real ones and IMO, Americans need a defined enemy to be effective.

I believe that is why we are still terrorized from many sides .. including our own government ... we can't or don't/won't put a "uniform" on an enemy and kill him.

We have a hard time mounting an attack against our government because of, what I call the Job (as in the Bible) syndrome ...

If we can find just ten patriots in the Congress, we won't bomb it

THAT'S what's wrong with the Tea Party ... and American patriots et al.

IMO

The problem with the Tea Party is the following imo. Sadly, as much as TP patriots complain about Obama’s butchering of the Constitution, it seems that patriots don’t know enough about the Constitution to shut Obama down, particularly the Founding States’ division of federal and state government powers evidenced by Section 8 of Article I, Article V and the 10th Amendment.

I’m a grass roots organizer of the Tea Party in my area. Once Dick Armey took over the organization and voice, I did not recognize the Tea Party anymore. What brought in most were the violations of freedom and privacy in Obamacare and other bi-partisan violations of the constitution ongoing in DC. They were upset with the corporate bailouts and the quick passing w/o reading, massive leglislation. They were mad about the banksters giving bad loans and crashing the real estate values. They felt the GOP was in the tank and needed a big ole poke in the eye.

Many were retired and they were all NOT out there begging for Washington to steal the SS and Medicare benefits they paid for in order to balance the EVER bloating budget. After Mittens’ campaign failed to mention anything they were worried about, many have lost interest.

The big problem with the Tea Party is that too many conservatives while initially becoming enthusiastic and involved simply dropped out after the 2010 elections thinking their job was done. This allowed the usual suspects to step in and begin turning the party into just another GOP controlled entity which turned off many people on the right.

I know most here probably don't want to hear it, but our best bet is still to take over the GOP. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen if conservatives keep limiting themselves to what they have done in the past. It is not enough to simply vote in elections or ceaslessly complain about the state of our country. All of us have to get involved in the political system. We need to boycott liberal businesses while creating and supporting our own. We need to create our own news network. The main problem wih America is that liberals are more liberal than conservatives are conservative. It's time we start living what we preach, otherwise, kiss this country good-bye.
