Good catch. Being old school, kids should have very limited choices when it comes to life altering decisions. I tell my kids when they move out and pay their own bills then they can choose where we live and what groceries we buy and what school they go to.

One of mine came home the other day spouting some rhetoric from a kid at their private school who told my kid that they wanted to do their last year at a public high school so they are leaving school. I told her BS, either the parents couldn’t afford it or the kid got in trouble. Any parent that lets a kids make a decision of that magnitude that can dramatically affect their life is passing the decision buck to the uninformed kid.

....I have been in the roughest neighborhoods in this country. If every person reading this had seen what I have seen, the outcry would shake the Rocky Mountains to their very core. I simply got fed up and decided to do something about it. And as I investigated the education plantation I found its failures extend far beyond the inner cities. Its failures reach into every community and touch every child in this entire land.

Democrats thrive where the people are ignorant and dependent. Or where they're overeducated and full of themselves. There's no place for the 'middle'.
