Washington tends to have a narrow view of what counts as economic policy. Anything we do to the tax code is in. So is any stimulus we pass, or any deficit reduction we try. But most of this mistakes the federal budget for the economy.
The truth is, the most important piece of economic policy we pass or dont pass in 2013 may be something we dont think of as economic policy at all: immigration reform.
Congress certainly doesnt consider it economic policy, at least not officially. Immigration laws go through the House and Senate judiciary committees. But consider a few facts about immigrants in the American economy: About a 10th of the U.S. population is foreign-born. More than a quarter of U.S. technology and engineering businesses started from 1995 to 2005 had a foreign-born owner. In Silicon Valley, half of all tech startups had a foreign-born founder. One-quarter of all U.S.-based Nobel laureates of the past 50 years were foreign born. Right now, about half of the PhDs working in science and technology are foreign born...

Yeah, 30 million illegals are enough to give us some 50 new democrat congressmen. That’s sure to help the economy.
Idiots.
I have three reasons they are pushing this. Union dues, revenuen and votes. IOW....to gain even MORE power.
Since Obamacare fell short of fixing the economy it’s time to move on to the next stupid idea....
These people never quit. Those here illegally have already demonstrated their willingness to break laws.
Most of them are low-income earners.
They won’t pay taxes once they become “citizens”. Won’t earn enough. These 30 million, perhaps 10 million that work aren’t millionaires.
Just more of the same, on the Govt. gravy train, just “legally” now.
Makes about as much sense as, “Got cancer? Then, eat Big Macs exclusively for the next six months.”
The average LEGAL immigrant costs this country money. The average illegal immigrants costs far more.
I’d pass immigration reform: severely limit it and create a system like Australia’s that only brings in those filling jobs in needed sectors with mastery of the English language.
And end the chain migration nonsense.
