Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have been 84 years old on Jan. 15 if he hadnt been killed in Memphis, Tenn., at 6:01 p.m. on April 4, 1968, at age 39 by an assassins bullet.
Trayvon Martin would have turned 18 years old this coming Feb. 5 had he not been shot and killed Feb. 26, 2012 in Sanford at 7:17 p.m. while walking from a store to an apartment in a gated community.
How both deaths galvanized a nation was explored on Jan. 17 during a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. banquet in Daytona Beach.
Derrick Henry, Daytonas first elected Black male mayor, welcomed Trayvons parents Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton to the banquet and the city. Henry was sworn in last month as the citys mayor.
We cried with you, wept with you stood with you when you demanded justice, said Henry, who also acknowledged others in attendance, saying Thank you for not allowing the dream (of King) to die.
Attorney Benjamin Crump, who represents Trayvons parents, was the keynote speaker.
(There are) far too many Black and brown (males) nobody seems to care about when they are taken away from this world. Its about us working together for justice, said Crump, who spoke before a crowd of about 300 people.
In the end, we will not remember the works of enemies but the silence of our friends, Crump continued as he called on those in attendance to help him and Trayvons parents make a difference.
The day before the banquet, Crump was in Tallahassee with Trayvons parents to lend their support to a bill filed by legislators to repeal the stand your ground law that George Zimmerman, accused of killing Trayvon, initially tried to use in his defense...

Talk about conning the public.
This is a lie. He wasn't "walking" nowhere. He was using a "white hispanic" guy's head for a basketball.
yeah bro..be down wit this s**t.....homeboy done git kilt being thugass ‘n’ s**t, y’all....he done embodied MLK’s ethics ‘n’ vision ‘n’ s**t.......
No barf alert ? This is some sicko $hit right here.
Dr. Martin Luther King would have called Trayvon a thug.
Also remember that the reason he had an Arizona Iced Tea, Watermelon Flavor, and Skittles, is because they are two of the three ingredients, the other being narcotic cough syrup, used in the variant of Purple Drank, known as “Lean”.
Purple Drank is the preferred intoxicant of southern rap performers. It has killed several of them.

Good riddance, criminal-drug-thug-boy.
Did they drank some some “fire-@$$ lean” in his honour?
>>(There are) far too many Black and brown (males) nobody seems to care about when they are taken away from this world.
No one in the black or brown community seems to care when these (males) decide to forsake their humanity to become thugs, criminals, and killers. They only care when one of their victims turns out to be armed and puts them down like a rabid dog.
There... fixed it
Trayvon? Trayvon..... I read the article, but that name doesn’t ring a bell.
You said it.
Martin Luther King would have been ASHAMED of this wanna-be thug and the people who suported him. Remember ALL of his speeches preached non-violence, and Trayvon was killed not while he was walking home, but when he attacked the neighbood watch patrol.
There’s no comparison between the two deaths, and this author is a huckster for claiming that there is. King was assassinated in cold blood, Martin was shot in self-defense. The people who claim he was murdered are lying to themselves, but not to me.
No telling how many lives Zimmerman saved by offing this POS.
Martin Luther King would have been ASHAMED of this wanna-be thug and the people who suported him.
NOT TRUE.. MLK would have voted for Zero like all the rest did..
and would have NOT come to Trayvon’s killers aid..
If anything he would have said nothing so as to NOT incur the wrath of 90+ percent of black people..
MLK was a liberal like John McLaim....
King wasn’t bashing Ray’s head against the concrete and trying to grab Ray’s gun to shoot Ray in the moments before Ray shot King.
