Actor, activist and "humanist" Matthew Modine says the nation must move past the "archaic" Second Amendment in the current debate over gun violence.
Modine, most recently seen in "The Dark Knight Rises" where his character took up arms against an invading force, used the Huffington Post to trash both the late Charlton Heston and the right to bear arms.
As a nation we cannot be shackled to an archaic Second Amendment which is being shielded by a minority of Americans that demand the right to use weapons that are continually killing citizens across our country. Weapons that are creating blood stains on our national conscience that we may never be able to wash away. The Second Amendment was written so far away from this moment in which we are living. Over the decades, our Constitution has been updated and made more civilized and fair by way of amendments...

GTH, asswipe.
Just how is one shackled by freedom? Or how is one freed by being forced to wear shackles?
Come on, folks. Let’s think here for a minute.
The ONLY ones shackled by our 2nd Amendment are the would-be tyrants and despots. Does he realize this?
Only after you eat the peanuts out of my sh*t pilgrim.
Who gives a damn what an actor thinks? On the other hand; you are paying his salary, gun owners.
Never heard of him.
If he doesn’t like the 2nd, he can turn in his 1st amendments rights in first...
I mean the founders never envisioned the internets and television and radio you know....
Shut up you dummy lib!
Give up your 1st first then tell us about giving up our 2nd, oh wait you can’t....
Lunatic fringe
He’s got quite a portfolio going—poses as soldier with gun...poses as police detective with gun...poses as, what, ceremonially-bedecked police officer with gun. I’d say his broad spectrum of character portrayals makes him one of the more highly-sought actors of our time.
Wasn’t his character’s name Joker in Full Metal Jacket?
Last night I was discussing the context within which the Framers were writing the Constitution and it became clear to us that the 2nd Amendment is intended for each and every American citizen to have the right to acquire ANY GUN THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN ACQUIRE.
What else could they have meant, given the attempt by the British to disarm the colonists, given they were attempting to seize guns that were on a par with (if not superior to) what the British soldiers were carrying. My friend and I agreed that, if I want to own a bazooka, the 2nd Amendment gives me that RIGHT.
The debate quickly slips away when they frame it in the context of hunting. The context of the 2nd Amendment is not hunting; it is in being able to defend yourself against a hostile government.
“Shielded by a minority of Americans?” ...look out your window again, dear boy. The MAJORITY of Americans are supportive of bearing arms. Only the MINORITY, like you, are whining about it. Get your head out of your Hollywood-bubble sphincter muscle!!
actor=fantasy world
humanist= A system of thought that rejects religious beliefs and centers on humans and their values, capacities, and worth
activist=an especially active, vigorous advocate of a cause, especially a political cause. adjective.
in reality=bonehead socialist
Let’s not even talk numbers here because there are so many low-information citizens in our country right now who do not understand the Constitution and who are inclined to believe that their rights derive from the government.
If we debate along the lines of whose side has more adherents, any argument can, one day, tilt in the wrong direction. It must always come down to the Constitution.
That is why I am waiting to see what happens when these “laws”/”executive orders” whatever are passed. For, in that day, out come the lawyers and we can finally have a proper discussion of this matter (the little matter of what our rights are and where they come from, and the limited role government plays [solely in ensuring that the citizen’s rights are not infringed]) with our current “Constitutional Genius in Chief”.
There. Fixed it for ya.
calling all crazy stalkers! stalk this guy for awhile n lets see how fast he utilizes his second amendment rights!
First, we ban guns in movies and TV. After that we can talk about the Second Amendment.
Genesis
9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
although not specificly granted in the Constitution, the “right to hunt” was granted by a much higher authority to the descendants of the survivors of the Great Flood.
The Constitution AFFIRMS the rights granted by God.
Yep...Good catch. I will try to be more precise in the future—especially when I am drowsy. Scoundrels benefit from their enemies being half-asleep.
