Same old trick they always use: find or create a problem, and suggest (then demand) a solution that increases their control over citizens. We keep falling for it, over and over.
I always wonder if this comparison makes sense. After all, there are a lot more Americans in Chicago than in Afghanistan. In fact you are more than 25 times as likely to be killed as an American soldier in Afghanistan, than as a person in the city of Chicago. If you live in Chicago and are not in a gang, then it is closer to 100 times as dangerous to be a soldier in Afghanistan. And if you live in Chicago and are white, it is more than 500 times as dangerous to be serving in Afghanistan.
